Census takers will be as
signed to their own neighbor
hoods whenever possible, the
manager said. Paid training
will begin very soon, followed
by several weeks of full-time
work visiting homes and
interviewing the residents.

Census takers should be
U.S. citizens age 18 or older.
However, they may be hired
at age lfi or 17 if they are high
school graduates or have
equivalent work experience.
Also the citizenship require
ment may be waived, espe
cially for persons fluent in a
foreign language as well as
English.
A census taker must be able
to follow printed instructions,
do simple arithmetic, and
rend maps, all of which will be
tested before Interviewing for
hiring. Pay will average $4 an
hour or more.
Applicants should have a
home telephone and a car, but
neither is absolutely neces
sary, Mileage will be paid
when a personal car is used
for census work.

Heppner fared well in some of

Heppner's Fillies came in
second place in the East
Division of the CBC with a 9-4
record behind Pilot Rock's
12-1 mark. Weston McEwen
was third, at 6-7. and Stanfield
and Umatilla tied for last
place at 2-11.
Riverside's Pirate boys'
team came in first place in the
West Division of the CBC with
an 11-2 record. Sherman was
second at 8-5. Wahtonka and
Wasco County tied for third at
and Condon was 2-11.
The Heppner Mustangs
were third in the CBC East
Division with a 7-6 league
record. Pilot Rock was first at
