January 1, 1980 SEVEN 12th Night tree burning set at lone Area residents are invited to lone on Monday, Jan. 7. to celebrate the "burning of the greens" on the Twelfth Night of Christmas, starting at 2:30 p.m. The annual event is sponsored by the lone Garden Club. Participants are asked to take their Christmas trees and other decorative greens to be burned. The burning will be at Rietmann's lot next to the lone Post Office. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. There also will be the singing of Christmas carols. Items missing at high school A tape deck and turntable were reported missing in an apparent theft at Heppner High School recently. Police Chief Dean Gilman said. Also reported taken was a piccolo from the high school music room. The police chief said there was no sign of forced entry at ;the school. The assumption is that someone with a key took the items when classes were not in session. Gilman said the thefts were believed to have occurred Dec. 14. School officials are attempting to determine the serial numbers of the stolen items. The police chief also repor ted the apparent theft of two guns from a display cabinet at the Coast to Coast hardware store on Dec. 27. He described the weapons as a Rugar Black. .357 magnum, single action, with a 6'L-inch barrel, ,and a High Standard .22 calibre Sport King with a 41 2-inch barrel. '80 baby still due! Area merchants will pro vide an array of gifts for the first baby of 1980 to be born at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner. However, as of New Year's Eve, no expectant mothers were in the maternity ward.
