-Aj ., -ii, j u .. TWELVE The Gazette-Times, Farm tax Oregon Congressman Al Ullman last week introduced legislation to alleviate an inadvertent tax burden im posed on farmers receiving federal disaster payments in 1978 for 1977 crops. The tax problem arose 'because a U.S. Department of Agriculture backlog resulted in many 1977 disaster pay ments not being made until 1978. Because of the prolonged drought, many Oregon far mers received the disaster payments and now are faced with having to pay taxes on income from the payment as well as the 1978 crop. Book tells of early Oregon cattle barons "Cattle Barons of Early Oregon," a book about the beef moguls of early eastern Oregon has recently been published and is available by mail.
