The win was the third straight in a late season surge that could carry the team into post-season tourn ament play. Mike Rowell was the offen sive leader, driving in three runs on a double and two singles. Kinzua struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning on singles by Mike Smith, Keith Curnutt and Jamie Sands followed by Rowell's two-run double. Gourmet came back with two runs in their half of the second but Kinzua jumped back into the lead in the same inning on Marvin Lane's run-scoring single. In the third, Sands drew a walk, advanced on a single by John McCabe and scored on an other one-bagger by Rowell. The visitors got back in the game with a sole homer in the fourth but Sands answered with a round tripper of his own to give Kinzua a two-run lead which they never gave up. In the field, Kinzua was aided by center fielder Dave Eckman's fine diving catch to end the fourth. Play-coach Curnutt stuck with a tough chance at third base and his throw to Lane nipped a Gourmet runner at first. Outfield rover McCabe con tributed several rifle pegs to keep the visiting baserunners honest. With only two games re maining, Kinzua stand in third place in the Hermiston Slow Pitch Softball League with a 16-4 record. The final games will be played this week at Kinzua 's home field in Lexington. 2 nuts Safe! Members of Willow Creek Country Club traveled to Kinzua for inter-club play, Sunday, July 24.
