She is scheduled to remain there for several days. During the vacation enjoyed at the Washington Coast and deep sea fishing at Illwaco, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Van Winkle and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Van Winkle were joined by the boys sister and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth DuVall who now make their home in Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jones of Pendleton are the proud parents of a daughter born Monday morning at a hosptial in that city. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and. Mrs. Joe Yocom and great granddaughter of Venice Hen o Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palmer were hosts for a barbecue, Saturday evening, July 23, at their ranch home, in honor of the Morrow County Fair and Rodeo Queen and Court, Pennant Bearers and thier parents, members of the Rodeo Board and their fam ilies. Other guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Gutierrez of Hermiston, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash, Mr. and Mrs. O .The Rev. and Mrs. Robert Schmoll were hosts of a family gathering when Mrs. Schmoll's sister, Darlene, and her husband, Mossen Fool abjoosh, were preparing to go to Teran, Iran. Mossen came to the U.S.A. to complete his education and recieve his degree. Other members of the family visiting here were Mrs. Schmoll's mother, Beatrice Montgomery, and a sister, Caroline Schluntz, of Port land. Also, Mrs. Don (Nicholle) Smith of Umatilla attended. Mayor and Mrs. Vernon Stewart have returned to their home in Irrigon after visiting their daughter and son-in-law, Sgt. and Mrs. Duane Yunker in Sohren, West Germany. Sgt. Yunker is a police investigator stationed at Hahn Air Base. The purpose of their visit was to be with their daughter, Sharon, at the birth of her first child. Kurt Andrew was born on July 15, weighing nine pounds, 10 ounces. Paternal grandpar ents live in Florida. Lyle Cox who has been a patient in St. Vincent's Hos ptial in Portland for heart surgery has returned to his home in Lexington. Florence McMillian spent a few days last week with her daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Irvin of Boardman. Mildred Rauch drove mail route last week for Mrs. Cox. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mar quardt and Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Messenger, Sr. motored to Vancouver last week where they attended the funeral services of Truman's sister, Nellie Sharp. Carl Marquardt is carrying his arm around in a cast and is recovering from bruises and cuts received recently when lone news Eva Harntett Dean Connor and Family, and Clif ta Bernard, all of Heppner, and Mr. an Mrs. Marion Palmer of lone. Mrs. Palmer had a special cake made in two tones of blue on a white background. Cen tering the cake was a large horse shoe with the Queen's name at the top and the four Princesses names around the horse shoe. The pennant bearers names were in each corner. While in Germany the Stewarts toured the country. Vernon said the tour buses were great and were equipped with stereo music. They visited three castles in the Bavarian Alps that had been occupied during King Lud wig's era. The Stewarts said they were very beautiful, with wood carvings that had been carefully preserved with var nish and were highly polished. Marble was used extensively in the castles in stairways and window sills. Also, many of the homes used marble. The Stewarts said the for ests in Germany are culitva ted and cared for much like a park. The Forest Master guards over it and is very strict. He knows where every animal lives and guards over them as well. In the school ststem, a student must be a straight A student to get into college, since there are only four major colleges in Germany. They are much more strict than in this country, according to the Stewarts. Most students will choose an occupation by 676-9263 Ik I 10WL he fell while at work. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Chick are spending a few days in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Stea gall attended the Shoun Fam ily reunion at Bull Prairie last Sunday. There were about 85 people present. Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall visited his mother, Mrs. Burnside, at Spray. She had as houseguests Mr. and Mrs. Garland Stea gall and Ed Steagall from Illinois. The men are cousins of Mr. Steagall. ' Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Steagall of Spokane and houseguests Leonna McQuinn and Shirley Shoemaker of Shady Valley, Tenn. were recent callers in Lexington and visited at the Shoun reunion. 422-7557 Heppner given in honor of Princess Donna Palmer. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall of Lexington spent Sunday at Ukiah at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Palmer. Scott Balfe of An corage Ala. was also visiting the Palmers. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mcintosh returned July 7 from a 10 day trip to Cushing and Stillwater, Okl. where they visited friends and relatives. They were accompanied by the time they are in the fourth grade, and they learn a trade by serving as apprentices. The Stewarts admired the way the homes and country side were kept so neat and clean. Every family would care for the street in front of their home. The people were very con servative with water and electricity. Most drove a smaller type car to save on gas that was $1.40 a gallon. The Stewarts said people walk more in Germany than here. They saw some who would walk two or three miles to a neighboring community to go to church. No business or industry was open on Sunday. Bill Lande patiently showed the kids how the bank operates on the other side of the . counter. Of special interest were the vaults where the children were allowed to hold rolls of change and feel the weight of silver dollars. They each came away with a sucker to keep them busy on the way to the park. Later in the day, the Masonic A public, symbolic Corner stone Laying Ceremony will be held at the Masonic Lodge in Sumpter, at 2 p.m., Satur day July 30. The Grand Master of Mas ons in Oregon will officiate, with his Grand Lodge Officers Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Mcintosh. Gene Grabill came down to visit his mother, .Mrs. Ida Grabill, on July 2, and ended up in the Pioneer Memorial Hospital with a blood clot in his leg. After spending two weeks in the hospital, he is now at his mothers, but will be laid up for several more weeks and would appreciate friends dropping by to visit with him. The last story hour at the City Library will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd at 3:15 p.m. Many children attended the story hours this summer with an average of 12 attend ing each time. The AAUW and The Topic Club would like to thank the parents for helping make this program a success. Mrs. Jim Swanson spent the weekend in Roseburg visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Circle. Zoi Mihael idou, Greek PRYLE, who is visiting in Morrow County for a couple of weeks accompan ied her. They sang songs and played games with as many of the residents as possible. The afternoon was mutually rewarding and en joyed by everyone. Dr. Lee Hazen will be coming to the center Friday, July 29, to instruct the children on the value of good dental hygine. Womens ' group views summer craft display Using the theme "In the Good Old Summertime," the Heppner Christian Business and Professional Women held their July meeting, Monday, July 14. Tables were decorated with summertime decorations and a special feature entitled "Summer Fun Creations" was presented by Birdine Tullis and Francine Evans. Included in the presentation were many children's items that can be made from articles picked up at the beach or in the backyard. Also shown were macrame items and other crafts. Most of the displays were made by 4-H'ers at summer camp and were both creative and imaginative. Music for the evening was provided by Wilma Cheney, soloist from Cecil, and the featured speaker was Kathryn Mai of Kinzua, a homemaker and Village Missionary. They returned home Thursday after spend ing the night at their place at Crooked River. Earl and Carol Norris enjoy ed an unusally sunny warm visit this weekend at Lincoln City. Carol tells me it was the nicest weather she can re member on a trip to the Oregon coast. The Norris' stopped in Portland on their way home to visit with Carol's sister, Lois Carpenter. Billie Joe and Pat McMinn and daughters Sheri and Brenda left Kinzua the even ing of the 13th for a trip to Disneyland. They stopped over in Klamath Falls to visit Billie Joe's parents Joe and Lois McMinn. Friday, the McMinns went on to the group will be Monday, August 1, at the Elks Club beginning at 7: 30 p.m. Featured will be a back to school fashion show presented by Kroll's Dept. Store. Mary Klueke, depart ment manager of the Bon Marche in Walla Walla will be the speaker. All ladies are welcome to attend. At the senior McMinn home where they visited again on the return trip, they enjoyed seeing Billie Joe's sister and Family. His sister, Mrs. Jerry Smith, her husband and sons drove cross-country from their home in Maryland. The McMinns arrived home Thursday tired but with many pleasant memories. The Jiggs Bowman family was very busy last weekend. Ron and Ginger Bowman brought the Bowman's grand daughter Erika to spend the week with Jiggs and Rita. This weekend the Bowmans and daughter Cindi and Patti Pemberton, Fossil, took Erika home to her parents Joe and Robin Bowman in Portland. In Portland the Bowmans picked up Annette Williamson, daughter of Jack and Sandra Williamson of Camp Five. Before Jiggs and Rita return ed home Sunday they took Cindy, Patti, and Annette to Pacific University where the three girls will attend basket ball camp. I'm sorry about no news last week but I spent the week at Lake Magone, I enjoyed what for me was a wonderful trip, by myself with a fishing pole, some reading material and a crossword book or two.
