U.S. Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, TX. He will receive 20 weeks of advanced flight training in cluding indoctrination flight physiology and survival, air craft engineering, flight rules and regulations, meteorology and instrument navigation. Upon completion of this course he will be assigned to a NEW IIOl'RS FOR ADl'LT BASIC EDUCATION A new day class will begin for the Adult Basic Education program. Besides the evening class from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursdays of each week, there will be a class offered each Monday from 12 2 p m. The Monday afternoon class will be for both GED students and those earning Adult High School diplomas. Both the evening and afternoon classes meet at the Neighborhood Center. 120 S. Main, Heppner. Jones at the October meeting of the lone Garden dub. The group met at the home of Mrs. H S. Huber with Mrs. Norman Nelson assisting. Mrs. Robert Davis, Milton Freewater, was a guest for the day. Mrs. George Miller was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. Jones reported for the area beautification committee and reported that plans are progressing for a park in Lexington. Mrs. Pettyjohn reported corsages had been made for the lone Teachers Welcome. Twelve members signed up to attend the meeting of the Blue Mountain District No. 10, Pendleton, Oct. 15. 'To be successful at indoor gardening one must under stand the plant and its needs for adequate light, correct temperature, proper humidity and nutrients," stated Mrs. Jones. The Heppner Branch of the American Association of Uni versity Women enjoyed an International Dinner at the home of Betty Rietmann, lone, Tuesday evening. Some twenty-five members and prospective members enjoyed foreign dishes of lands made by the branch members. Following dinner the inter national theme was carried out by the showing of a film entitled "Comparisons: Four Families." In the film rearing of young children and family patterns in one family In each of four different countries were shown as relating to national characteristics. Comments on the family patterns in India, France, Japan and Canada throughout the film were made by anthro pologist Margaret Mead. Topic spotlight for the evening was on one of the national AAUW topics for the next two years, "Society and the Individual; Conformity vs. Creativity." Topic chairper son. Llx Curtis, led the group in an exercise on the imagina tive aspect of creativity after briefly discussing the imagin ative process as it applies to creativity and the applicatory aspect of the creative process. Branch president, Ann Doh erty, explained the structure of an AAUW branch and Its relationship within the Divi sion and National body of the organization. Stress was plac ed on the study possibilities within branches and the new financial assistance programs for individuals to resume university study. The branch will be hosting a Shakespear Troupe which will perform at Heppner High School, Oct. 21. Nov. 6, a Fireside Chat with our State Legislators has been tenta tively scheduled. Ken Jern stedt is scheduled to speak at the public meeting Monica Swanson is in charge of arrangements. Later in November, mem bers of the Branch and others interested will attend, as a group, the play at Blue Mt. Community College, titled "The Man Who Came to Dinner." The annual arts and crafts show and sale called the Artifactory is scheduled for the first Saturday in Decem ber. Judy Hirni and Kathy Anderson are chairing that project.
