Kent returned to her home in Bullhead, AZ, after staying three weeks with her daughter, Cathy Lear, who was recuperating from recent surgery. Tim, Tyrone, and Sabrina Lear are visiting their father, Tom P. Lear in Lawn dale, CA. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Petty john Sr., recently returned from San Francisco, CA where they attended an Ag-' ents Alliance Meeting. Mrs. Pat Brindle and one of the rodeo princesses will be attending the Senior Citizen dinner at the church on Aug. 6. They will be giving free passes for anyone 62 or over to the county fair. If unable to attend at that time, passes can be obtained from Mrs. Jean Nelson. Mrs. Wayne Hams and children, Jeff, Craig, Deanna and Shawn, Miss Gale Herr mann, and Paul Pettyjohn, Jr. and daughter, Kristina, re turned from a trip to Disney land, Friday evening. Mrs. Elby Akers and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn Sr. entertain ed with a birthday party Friday evening in honor of Kim Cofenas and Kim Petty john. Guests were members of last year's 7th and 8th grades. They met in the park for ice cream and cake and later enjoyed swimming at the lone Pool. Mrs. Diana Kincaid will be the featured reader for story hour at lone Library Friday at 10:30 Mr. and Mrs. Leland Mill man's guests last week were their children and families. Visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Owens and daughter, Baker; Mrs. Lance Whitman and children, Burns; Mr. and Mrs. Don Brown and dau ghters. SADIE PARRISH, County Clerk Published July 31, 1975 UWANDA UNDSEY Recording star to appear here La Wanda Llndsey, teenage recording star, will perform at the Rodeo Court Dance at the fair pavilion, Aug, 9. She is one of few 14 year-old girls who signed a major contract and went on to become a performing star. She was born In Savannah, GA., and has been part of the music scene since she was 5 years old. She performed as a singer with her father's band, the Dixie Showboys. She credits her parents with her start in music. "They traveled with me a great deal and always encouraged me." She signed wilh Chart Records, Nashville, when she was 14 and recorded 21 singles and 4 albums, including a duet album rendition of "Wild Mountain Berries" wilh Kenny Vernon. She has since moved to Bakersfield, CA, and has signed with OMAC Artist and records for Capitol Records. LaWanda has had numerous television shows to her credit including the Bill Anderson Show, the Wilburn Brothers Show, Music Country US A. and has made numerous appearances on lice Haw. She has appeared on Grand Old (pry and the Wheeling Jamboree. She is a busy entertainer and pends 10 months a year touring the country in personal appearances. She is also a budding songwriter. One of her compositions, "Wave Bye Bye to the Man," was recorded by Lynn Anderson. As for her plans for the future she intends "to continue in country music as long as I'm able, because I love it." County employee dies at Pendleton William C. Heath, 65, died Saturday, July 26 at St. Anthony's Hospital, Pendle ton Heath was born in Ford County. Kansas. Dec. 17. UX and Mas a resident of Heppner for the past 30 years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Mor row County Road Department for the past 25 years. He served in the United States Army and was a member of Heppner American Legion Post 87. He Is survived by his widow Mabel, son Larry Dean Heath, daughter Linda Jean Schultz, all of Heppner; brothers Forrest Eugene and Ralph, both of Kimberly. II); Pearl Austin, Holdman. OR; Sam and Elmer, Heppner; and Elton, Mobile, AL; one sister Jessie Abbott, Portland, and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29 at 1 p m. from the First Christian Church, with the Rev. Edwin Sikes officiating. Military graveside services were held at the Heppner Masonic Cem etery conducted by the Amer ican Legion. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Soci ety in memory of Mr. Heath. Picnic popular Approximately 200 people attended the picnic Sunday at Cutsforth Park given by Buzz and Kate Lynch, owners of Cat's Cafe and Lounge. This is the only day during the year the cafe and lounge are closed so the employees can relax with their families and friends. This is not an employees picnic only, but all customers and friends and their families are invited to attend. Over 300 pounds of fried chicken were served to those attending the picnic, all fur nished by Buzz Lynch. He also provided all refreshments for all ages. Including ice cream for the youngsters.
