Two ears un, they went hackpackini; in the Wallowa Mountains, and last summer they took a canoe trip on the Willamette Hiver. Sunday, they drove to Ana fortes. Local graduates receive degrees A graduating class of 2,185. including baccalaureate, pro fessional, and advanced de gree candidates, was present ed at the University of Oregon's 9Hlh annual June commencement, Sunday, June 15, The 2:30 pm. exercises were held at Hayward Field with University President Ro bert D. Clark presiding. Pre sident (lark also gave the commencement address, at the request of students, to climax his retirement year. Included in the class were I.4H0 candidates for baccalau reate degrees: 114 candidates for Doctor of Jurisprudence degrees; 484 candidates for master's degrees, and 137 candidates for doctoral de grees Candidates received their official degrees when they had fulfilled all requirements for degrees at the close of the 1975 Spring Term Friday. TEACH IN AUSTRALIA Gwen Drake, LaGrande, Or. graduated cum laude from Eastern Oregon State College and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education. In late August she will travel to Victoria. Australia, to lullill a P E teaching contract Graduates with high honors Maralee Trotter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rod Murray, Hcppner, graduated with hon or! from Oregon State Uni versity June 8, 1975, with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy. She was a 1967 Hcppner High School grad uate. While attending college, Mrs. Trotter was a member of the following organizations: Sigma Kappa sorority: the American Pharmaceutical Association; Alpha Lambda Delta, a freshman women'a honorary: Lambda Kappa Sigma, an honorary for wo men in pharmacy: lota Sigma Pi. an honorary for women in chemistry; Rho Chi, an all pharmacy honorary and; Phi Kappa Phi, a national schol astic honorary. She was the recipient of a National Health Professions Scholarship; a National Foun dation of Pharmaceutical Ed ucation Scholarship: the John W. Dargavel Foundation Scholarship; and the Ethel J. Heath Key. an award by Lambda Kappa Sigma for women in the top ten per cent ' of the graduating class. Mrs. Trotter is now employ ed in Springfield where she and her husband Dean, a 1972 OSU graduate in chemical engineering, have been resid ing lor the past three years. Mr. and Mrs. Murray tra veled to Corvallis to attend the' commencement exercises with their son-in-law and granddaughter Kimberly. A celebration picnic was held at the Trotter's Spring field home with many friends and relatives attending. Opal Cook served as direc tor of the Heppner Christian and Church of The Nazarene Bible School last week On Friday evenings parents were invited to a concluding pro gram and social time. They saw some of the work the children had done during the week and visited with the teachers and one another while enjoying refreshments. The daily attendance at the morning school averaged 40 youngsters. The four teachers this year were Carol Godin and Nancy McElhaney of the Nazarene Church and Laura Lee Stotts and Frances Mit chell of the Christian Church. VISITS IIEHE Mrs J. R. Huffman. Canby. a former Heppner resident, recently spent two weeks in Heppner visiting friends. While here she was a house guest of the C. C. Carmi chaels. Mrs. Harris, assisted by Ellen Kennedy, read the candlelight ceremony. Betty Heath received her first Pearl Award. This award is given to first year members only who participate in all three of her Chapter's pur poses: philanthropic, educa tional and social along with sponsoring a new ESA mem ber. The educational theme "Salt and Pepper", local, state and international phil anthropic projects and social activities for the forthcoming year were discussed. Assisting hostess Rita Har ris for the occasion w ere Betty Heath and Romona Marshall. A "fun night" social was held recently at the grade school baseball field for Alpha Theta members and their guests.
