All Hands' Welcomed af Thursday night saw the first community Teachers and Newcomers welcome party in Heppner. It brought teach ers and other school district employees and many resi dents out to enjoy greeting one another. The arrangements were the coojerative efforts of the So roptimist Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Minis terial Association. The pro gram was contributed by many who presented things to do in the community. STAR PERFORMERS Musical numbers were pre sented in intervals during the evening. The Assembly of God Youth Chorus, led by Mrs. Don Burwell and ac companied by Mrs. Loa Tay lor; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mar quardt and Harley Sagersang accompanied by Clarence Baker on his guitar; Dennis Cass sang accompanied by Mrs. Cass. Instrumental treats were Mrs. Emile Cro shens' piano solo, and Dave Mann's trumpet solo with ac companiment by Mrs. Cro shens. EVENINGS PROGRAM After greetings over the coffee and punch and cook ies, the flag salute was led by five Scouts from Pack 661, Webelos Den No. 1, lead er Leonard Toll. The boys, Jimmy Raymond, Steven Mar latt, Richard Schmidt, Terry Toll and Randy Worden did a precise job. The even ing's master of ceremonies. Harley Sager, took over to keep the program moving smoothly. Judge Paul Jones Introduced the County Commissioners. Su perintendent of Schools, Ron Daniels, introduced the mem bers of the county school board, his office staff and the two principals, Jim Bier and Don Cole. Each prin cipal introduced bis teach ing staff and the supportive staffs of their schools, ask ing each one and-or the hus band and wife to stand. CHbRCH SPEAKERS Representatives from Hep pner's churches each gave a two minute talk. Participat ing were Rev. Don Burwell, Assembly of God; Rev. Dan Thompson, All Saints Episco pal; Father Raymond Beard, St. Patrick's Catholic; Rev. Don Johnson, Christian Church, Heppner and Church of Christ, Lexington; Paul barren, The Church of Je sus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Rev. Rudy Mensch, Valby and Hope Lutheran; Rev. Edwin Cutting, First Methodist; Mrs. Floyd Ever hart Church of the Nazarene and Mrs. Vernon Wilson, Sev enth Day Adventist. ORGANIZATIONS REPS. Representatives of the fol lowing organizations spoke briefly: County Agent Ha rold Kerr and volunteer lead er, Jean Nelson, OSU Exten sion and 4; Mrs. Herman Winter, Heppner Library-Museum Board; County Clerk Sadie Parrish, register to vote; Mothers' Club. Speakers were timed by Leonard Munkers with a two minute bell-ringing alarm. Others who appeared were: Morrow County demand Min eral Society, Pete McMurtry; Arbuckle Ski Area, Kelly Wolff; Wranglers, DickSchli chting; The Neighborhood Center, Dorothy Heard; Gold en Age Club, Sadie Parrish; Heppner Civic League, Judy Gochnauer; TOPS Clubs, Lily Wilson; Heppner Arm of the Right to Bear Arms, Ron Brittner; and The lone Grand Squares, Daisy Collins. OTHER HELFERS The evening's great collec tion of cookies was provided by the women of the church es. Coffee and punch, cups and napkins, were purchased by the Heppner-Morrow County Chamber of Com merce. PARKER was re classified as a Life Member in 1963. She Is one of the CHARTER MEMBERS of the Heppner Club. Formerly-fcer classification was Electrical Industry and sba was a co owner of Heppner hardware ind Electric Co. Presently Etta is employed by the Mor row County Road Department as a bookkeeper and operates their radio. She is probably the best attendance chairman in many regions and the Hep pner Club is so proud of the attendence records she keeps. Her hobbies are sew ing, knitting, gardening, read ing and operating ber ama teur (ham) radio when she has time. 177 N.
