Kinzua Boy Earns Promotion KINZUA Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Murphy and Benson have received word of family. the promotion of their son Ron- m,. and Mrs. Marvin Mines aid to Machinist Mate 3c. Ron- visited last week In Idaho Falls, aid, or Skeeze as he is known, Idaho with their daughter and was home recently and since family, the Steve Harrisons. then has been In Hawaii, Jap an, and the Philippines, and is expecting to go to New Zealand and Australia. In The Dalles Saturday on business were Mr. and Mrs, Mike Wright and daughter Crystal. Also in The Dalles Sat urday were Mrs. Jack Sltton and her mother, Mrs. Cora Barnslde of Spray. Mrs. Burnsdle recelv ed medical care. Mr. and Mrs. Don NiekeLsen, Tiffanl and Brad spent their va cation on a trip to Huntington Beach, calif., where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sears. Also visiting the Sears were Mrs. Jack Sitton and Rita, Miss Gladys York of Milton-Freewa ter and Miss Sharon Huff of Hcrmlston. The girls remained In California to seek employ ment. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lynch spent their vacation at their home at Fall Creek near Spring field. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rice and family returned home Friday evening from their vacation trip to visit relatives in Kansas. When they returned home they were accompanied by Miss Aud rey Potts of Strong City, Kan., who will make an extended vis It Mr. and Mrs. David Lovell of Albany spent from Tuesday un til Thursday visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Conner. Mrs. Dan Bell and children. and Mrs. Robert Kelso went to Portland Friday to take Miss Debbi McKenney to her home, To North Carolina Mr. and Mrs. W.. C. Freeman returned during the weekend from a trip to Twin Falls, Idaho wnere they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bogle and family. They men new on to Bryson City, N. C, and Washington, D. C, where they visited relatives. John Freeman remained at Twin Falls for a longer visit. Marsha Freeman spent the week visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Mary Williams in Spray. Kinizua on Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs Bowman and family returned home Sat urday evening from their vaca tion spent visiting in Portland and at Castle Rock, Wn, with Mr. and Mrs. Leighton Strom. They also visited in Bend with Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Adams and family vacationed in Calif ornia where they visited with relatives In Corning, Orland, and Wllllts. Mr. and Mrs. Ardcn Tripp and sons returned this week from their vacation spent on a trip to Yellowstone Park. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Benson and family vacationed at var ious points on the coast while. the Stanley Bcnsons went up to Long Beach and other coastal points in Oregon and Washing ton. Jack Sitton was In The Dalles Friday , where he had medical attention. Mr. and Mrs. Bernerd Dyer spent several days last week visiting with relatives at St, Maries, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parton and family spent their vacation on a trip to North Carolina where they visited members of Mr. Partons family. Mrs. Frank DeMerltt and Mrs, Earl Norris were in Heppner last Tuesday where Eva had medical care. Mrs. Herschel Murdock went to John Day last Wednesday to attend the funeral services of Mrs. Effie Williams of Fossil. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hardwick and family went to Yakima last Thursday where they spent sev eral days visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Lott Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jones were in Heppner Friday for Dale to have medical attention. THEW ASP" HEPPNER Mr. and Mrs. Denzll White were business visitors to The Dalles Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Mur dock spent the weekend in Port land where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Boll, Jr. and family. They returned home Sunday and Mrs. Murdock re turned to Portland Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Todd and family returned home Sunday from a week's vacation to Port land where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Wlncbarger and family and then went on to spend some time at Long Beach, Wn. Mrs. Glenna Rollls and fam ily were in Heppner Monday where Mrs. Roll is had medical attention. David Dieker of John Day spent the weekend visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Don Hardwick and family. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thomas returned home Sunday from their vacation. They visited at Prinevllle with Mr. and Mrs. BUI Weekley, at Sisters with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thomas and family, went to Crater Lake and then on to Port Orford where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Creason. This' Is because she has passed all 6 tests for her GED certificate for graduation from High School. This has been a do-it-yourself project for her with assistance from Mrs. W. W. Weatherford one day a week for the past several months. Mrs. Grace Martin took the studies and passed her exams late in May. The classes were set up by Pat Brlndle and the Neighborhood Center. Little League Ball Games this Week JUNE 16 Braves 18 vs. Indians 23. Three pitchers went, in for the Indians, Leland White, Ricky Gilbert and Kim Gueterrlez. Catchers were Kim Gueterrlez, Paul McElligott and Danny Akers. Pitchers for the Braves were Paul Van Marter and Dennis Peck. David McLachlan and Danny Marshall were catchers. The game was the longest one of this year's season. It started at 6 and ended shortly before 9. The Indians scored 12 runs the first inning Which took 45 min utes to playi( motored to Lexington Saturday where they spent the weekend, Kimbcrlce Larson who has been at the Jones ranch for two weeks returned to her home with Char lene while Billy stayed In Lex ington for the summer. Plan for Sidewalk Bazaar Holly Rebekah Lodge met on Thursday evening for the last one before the summer holidays. Members were reminded of the Sidewalk Bazaar booth. It was announced that the birthday committee, Mrs. Wm. J. Van- Winkle and Mrs. Wayne Papin eau will remember the birthday members at Three Links Club meeting at the A. F. Majeske home in July. Mrs. Irene Pad berg was voted in as a new member to be initiated when the president visits in Sept. At PNG Picnic Mrs. A. F. Majeske, Mrs. Flor ence McMillan and Mrs. Wayne Fapineau attended the Past No ble Grand picnic held at noon at the Stanfield Park with the Stanfield PNG's as hostesses Saturday. They went on to Pen dleton where they visited Mrs. Altha Kirk who is a patient In St. Anthony Hospital there. Layton Roberts underwent major surgery at St. Anthony Hospital on Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Irvin and Vicky were Lexington callers Sunday from their home in Hood River. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Aarstad and family of Portland visited the weekend with her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. VanWinkle. Other callers on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Pine Thornburg and Mr. and Mrs. Donald VanWinkle of Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Morris McCarl and family visited here from Harrisburg. The McCarl family and Edwards family were Ken newick visitors on Sunday. Miss Linda Orwick received first aid treatment at Pioneer Memorial Hospital Friday night following a car accident. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Davidson went to Portland over the week end. Paul Morey of Portland was in Lexington this past week. Mrs. Harnett Honored Three Oregon historians have been named as recipients of the Henry C. Collins Award, given by the Oregon Historical Soci ety for distinguished work In the collection and preservation of local history. The awards, which are made annually, have gone to Mr. and Mrs. Harley Hasklns, Lebanon, and Mrs. Rachel Harnett, Hepp ner. Mrs. Harnett won her award for her museum work In Hepp ner and other eastern Oregon historical projects. The awards are presented an nually by the Oregon Historical Society and Mr. and Mrs. Don ald Mencfce, Eugene, to out standing regional history schol ars in memory of Mrs. Mene fee's father, an Episcopal min ister of The Dalles, who was active in the early compilation of regional history.
