POTTER Superintendent, Morrow County Schools As this school year draws to a close, the administrators are planning for a remedial sum mer program. On April 25. 1966. our school district was granted approval of a project under Public Law 8910. Title I. The title of this project Is: "Morrow County District-wide Summer Remedial and Cultural Enrichment Program. This program will concen trate on remedial reading, re medial mathematics, remedial spelling, and to a small degree, remedial social studies. The program is scheduled to start on June 20. 1966, and will con tinue through July 29, 1966. This will allow six weeks of special work for three hours each day. The classes will be held from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Arrangements will be made to transport the students by small school buses. The staff will be hired from our current teaching staff wherever possi ble. The program will include two classes in the Heppner Elemen tary School, one class in the lone Elementary School and one class in the A. C. Hough ton Elementary school. . (The school district has been oper ating a remedial program in the A. C. Houghton school for some time, and this program will be continued). We are hoping that the teach er aides can also be certified teachers from our present staff. The administrators are current ly taking applications and talk ing to their staff members about this program. The students will be selected by faculty and teacher recom mendation. The staff will then contact the parents and secure their permission and coopera tion. In Heppner, one class will cover a class range from one through four; the other class will cover the range five through eight. In lone, the tentative class range is grades one through six. In the A. C. Houghton school one class will cover the class range one through, four, the other class (district spon sored), will cover the class range five through, eight .
