Legion Post Observes Child Welfare Month Heppner Post No. 87 of The American Legion here joins with nearly 17,000 Legion posts throughout the nation in the 24th annual observance of Child Wel fare Month during April, Post Commander Glen Ward announ ced today. Commander Ward pointed out that The American Legion con ducts its child welfare program throughout the year but tradit ionally April has been set aside to give special emphasis to the program. During the month of April, Legion Posts throughout the nation will conduct special activities to focus public atten tion on the needs of nearly 70 million American children and youth. lone Student Play 7 To Be Staged Friday A three-act play, "The Canni bal Queen," will be staged by students from the lone High school student body Friday, April 13, at 8:00 p. m. in the lone school cafeteria. The comedy is directed by Arnie Hedman. It follows an in teresting plot about an ex-cannibal that is brought to America by the nephew of a rich pro fessor. He does not bring the real cannibal, so he tries to use a fake queen in her place. This plan works until the real canni bal queen shows up and causes a major disturbance in the lives of all involved. (G-T Photo) Case Called Off An auto damage action, sched uled to be heard before a jury in Morrow County circuit court Thursday, April 5, was apparently settled out of pourt'ana did not come to trial, Mrs. Sadie Parrish, county clerk, said. Circuit Judge William Wells advised her late last week not to call the jury, she said. Betty Hovis was plain tiff in the action that sought damages totaling $21,164.25 as a result of an accident that called the life of her former husband, Gerald Dale Gray, on February 14, 1959. Campbell of Heppner is being assigned to Mather AFB, Calif., following his graduation from the United States Air Force tech. nical training course for aircraft mechanics here. Airman Campbell was trained to maintain and service recipro cating engine aircraft and air craft systems. A graduate of Heppner High school, the airman entered the service in August 1961.
