HEPPNER GAZETTE Boardman Grange By MARY LEE MARLOW Members of Greenfield Grange and their families enjoyed a pic nic Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr and Mrs Nathan Thorpe. Out of town guests in cluded Mrs Thorpe's cousins, Mr and Mrs Leslie'Smith and son Don of Martinez, Calif, her par ents, Mr and Mrs Paul Smith of Union, and the Thorpe's son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Larry Thorpe and daughter JoAnn of Hermiston. Other guests were Mr and Mrs Wilbur Lehman of West Linn, residents here twelve years ago. Others present were Mr and Mrs Earl Briggs, Mr and Mrs Claud Wor den, Guy Ferguson, Mrs Zearl Gillespie, Mr and Mrs Clyde Tannehill, Mr and Mrs Arthur Allen, Mrs Laura Allen, Mr and Mrs W G Seehafer, Mrs Cecil Hamilton and daughter, Lorelei, Mrs Frank Marlow, Jim, Sandra and Teresa Thorpe. Mr and Mrs Vern Carpenter are the parents of a son born Aug 13 in La Grande. Great-grandparent is Mrs Effie Miller of Boardman. The baby weighed six pounds, 14 ounces. Mrs Charles Higuera took her mother, Mrs Guy Ferguson, to Prosser, Wash last Thursday, from where Mrs Ferguson accom panied her brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Earl Downey, to Lodge Grass, Mont to visit the ladies' brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Howard Ma son. They will also go to Sheri dan, Wyo to visit their brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs L C Mcintosh. They plan to be gone two weeks. Mrs Elvin Ely was hostess for the home economics club of Greenfield Grange at her home Wednesday of last week, with Mrs Frank Marlow as co-hostess. Lunch was served at 12:30. It was voted the club would serve meals at the North Mor row County Fair Sept 3-5, and the following committee appoint ed to plan the meals: Mrs Nath an Thorpe, Mrs Earl Briggs and Mrs W G Seehafer. Mrs Glenn Mallerv and son Z i Alalka' are visiting at the home of her par- ents, Mr and Mrs Claud Coats The Coats' went to Pasco, Wash to meet them one evening last week. The Mallery's are moving to Pasadena, Calif. Mrs Coats and Mrs Mallerv and Jimmv went to fcugene Saturday to visit j at tne home of Mrs Coats' bro ther and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Ray Barlow, for the weekend. They will also attend the "Con tennlal Exposition in Portland. Visitors at the home of Mr and Mrs Charles Dillon one day last, week were Mrs Dillon's cous in, Jennie Brown, Reno, Nov. and Mrs Brown's daughter, Mrs Dan Peterson and daughters Lynn and Christie of Portland. Eldon Hartley, McMinnville, was an overnight visitor at the home of Mr and Mrs Claud Wor den last week on his way home from Elgin. Mr and Mrs Joe Crouch and sons Jim, Pat and Danny were on a fishing trip to Wallowa Lake and the Imnaha River last week. Karon Gronqulst had a tonsil lectomy at St Anthonv's hosnital in renctleton Jast week. Mrs George Sicard was a na- tient in St Anthonv's hosnital four days last week. Mrs Gene Taylor entered St Anthony's hospital last Wednes- day and had major sureerv rm 1 . " i mirsciay. Jack Flug, Boardman superin tendent, has been a patient in Pioneer Memorial hosnital in Heppner since last Tliursdav with the flu. Mrs Bob Sicard and her daugh ter Roberta had tonsillectomies at St Anthonv's hnsnit.ni inct Friday. Mr and Mrs Don Downev and sons Jerry and Wayne have re turned homo from a two week's vacation trip at Cove Beach and Eslacada. Shirley Moe, Kennewlck, Wash, visited at the home of her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Guy Ferguson, for two weeks, Mrs Paul Matt and children Steven and Colleen, Tacoma Wash, visited last week at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Bob Miller. Mr and Mrs Tony Zlelinski and children Toni Kay, Ronnie, Jerry and Julie left for their home In Detroit, Mich last week after vis iting the past month at the home of Mrs Zlellnskl's parents, Mr and Mrs Ernie Peck, his home with his uncle Mrs Toivo Simlla and six children of Portland, are visiting at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Adolf Skoubo, for two weeks, while Simila is employed at Stanfield. Other recent visitors at the Skoubo home were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Duane Silverthorn and daughters Marcy, Caryl and Kar en of Aloha. Pat Beall of Eugene visited at the home of her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Walter Hayes. They also visited at 'the home of Mrs Murray's uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Earl Briees Elizabeth Murray returned home with her parents after visiting last weoK at the Deits home. Members of the Boardman Gar den club held a picnic Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs Nathan Thorpe. Out of town guests were Mrs Thorpe's par ents, Mr and Mrs Paul Smith of Union. Little Eric Aase, six-week old son of Mr and Mrs Sigvald Aase of Echo is staying at the home of Mr and Mrs Ronald Black while Mrs Aase is in Tallequa, Okla, called there by the sud den death of her father, Hill De- Ment, of pneumonia. He had just returned home from a visit at the Aase home when he was taken ill. 'mm COUNTY COURT PROCEEDINGS The County Court met in reg ular session. The minutes of the June term were read and approv ed. The budget for the fiscal year, 1959-60 was approved as of June 30, 1959. The Court ordered the following city levies to be exten ded by the Assessor: Heppner, $20,760.50; lone, 2,046.00; Irrigon, 970.00; Lexington, 986.00; and Boardman, 2,581.84. The follow ing special levies were to be ex tended: Heppner, 10 mill levy, Sewer System; Heppner, 1 mill levy, Pipe line; Heppner, 1 mill park levy; lone, 10 mill levy, Special improvements. The Court also ordered the; following levies: $10,967.46 Fire Patrol; $1,300.00 Irrigon Rural Fire Protection Dist.; 2 mill levy Boardman Cem. Maint. Dist; mill levy, Heppner Cem. Maint. Dist.; 2 mill levy for Irri gon Cem. Maint. Dist.; Morrow Co. School District, levy of $618, 404.79; $23,808.45, Bonds and Int. School Dist. No. 1; $5,484.75, Bonds & Int. School Dist. No. 10; $14,386.50, Bonds & Int. School Dist. No. 25; and $30,137.80, Bonds & Int. School Dist. No. 35. Morrow County entered into an agreement with Howard Keithley as to the sale of a lot for the amount of $1200.00. The County Court ordered the transfer of the Amusement De vise Tax Fund in the amount of $295.53 to the General Fund.
