Garden Club Sets lone Flower Show Date As Sept 13 By ECHO PALMATEER The lone Garden club met at the home of Mrs Fredrick Martin Tuesday afternoon, Aug 11 with Mrs Lawrence Jones and Mrs Echo Palmateer as co-hostesses. At the business meeting conduc ted by Mrs Martin, president, it was decided to hold the annual flower show Sept 13 at the Leg Ion hall 2 to 5 p m tea will also be served. Mrs William Rawlins, flower show chairman appoint ed the committees to work on the show. Candice Meyers of Husum, Wash is visiting her great-grandparents, Mr and Mrs Dale Ray. Other visitors at the Rays re cently were, Mr and Mrs Lester Goodrich and son, Norman of Husum. Greg Leyva and Bob Akers, lone high school students, left Sunday for Eugene where they will attend the 6th student coun cil work shop this week. Mr and Mrs Wallace Matthews and daughters spent the week end in Roseburg where they at tended a Matthews family reunion. na, and Mrs A A Stefanl and children left Monday for Brook ings where they will visit the Norman Bergstroms. The annual Bergstrom reunion was held at The Dalles Sunday, August 16. A surprise birthday party was given in honor of Mrs Arthur Keene and Mrs Bryce Keene at the Bryce Keene home August 14. The hostesses were Kathy Keene and Mrs L A McCabe. Guests were Mrs Leo Crabtree, Mrs Harold Snider, and Janice and Dickie; Mrs James Petty john and Nancy and Jerry; Mrs Walter Jepsen; Christine and Doris McCabe, Arthur Keene, Bryce Keene and son, Richard. Mr and Mrs Ernest McCabe left Monday for Bay City where they will make their home. Mr McCabe has been there for some time where he Is employed in a meat market. Those who help ed them move were Harold Snid er, Wayne Rietmann and Jerry Bristow. Jimmy Leathers, son of Mr and Mrs L F Leathers is visiting rel atives In Portland. Bobby Ball, son of Mr and Mrs Donald Ball fractured his right hand last week while playing. He was taken to the Pioneer Memorial hospital for treatment where he spent two days. The Ball's other son, Jay, was bitten on the ear by a dog last week and was taken to Heppner for treatment. Mrs Leo Crabtree is in charge of the Greer store while they are away. Miss Mardine Baker spent last week at the home of her brother, and family, Mr and Mrs Ronald Baker, near Hermiston. She did the cooking there while Mrs Ba ker was In Seattle. Mr and Mrs Walter Dobyns returned home last week from a fishing trip near Bend. Their daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Tad Hardesty of Eugene met them there. Mr and Mrs Roland Bergstrom and daughters, Carla and Shau- Mr and Mrs Lewis Halvorsen took them down and returned home Monday. The Pilgrim Fellowship Lead ership camp for high school stu dents will be held at Camp Adams, August 26 to 30. Anyone wishing to go may contact Mr and Mrs Rod MacKenzie im mediately. Mr and Mrs Dale Ray reported that their sons, Bill and Claude Brashers of Lyle, Wash had a very disastrous fire on their farm recently. They lost their barn, much hay, corn and trac tor and other machinery. The teachers for the coming year are 1st grade, Mrs Harriet Hall; 2nd grade, Mrs Roxle Moeck; 3rd grade, Miss Barbara Deklotz; 4th grade, Mrs Gladys Ely; 5th grade, Don Clark of Heppner; 6th grade, Jack Loyd of Heppner; 7th grade departmen tal, with a special teacher for each subject; 8th grade, Don Olmscheid, Portland. In high school Dallas Shockley, super intendent and high school princi pal; Arnie Hedman, Charles Hudson, Gilbert Lujan, Grant Rigby, Miss Ann Reynolds, Port land and James Monroe, Buell, Idaho. Mrs Gordon White and Mrs John Jackson will be the cooks. Ray Barnett and Robert DeSpain will be the custodians and bus drivers. The regular season of the swimming pool will close, Aug 31. If the weather is warm the pool may remain open longer but extra charges will be made. The lone high school band will play in the Morrow County Fair and Rodeo parade in Heppner, Aug 29.
