Dancing Party Enjoyed Friday Tom Glass was host Friday ev ening for a dancing party at his home. I New Sewing Club Members, Traveler Honored At Luncheon Mrs Claude Graham entertain ed the Sewing Club Wednesday afternoon at luncheon at her home on the Lexington highway. Those present were Mrs E K Schaffltz, Mrs Tom Wilson, Mrs John Pfeiffer, Mrs C E McQuarrle, Mrs Carl Spaulding, Mrs Gene Pierce, Mrs Jack Bedford, Mrs P W Mahoney, .Mrs Raymond Fer guson, Mrs Lowell Grlbble and Mrs Robert Penland. The club presented Mrs Wil son with a bon voyage gift. The Wilsons left Saturday on a four months tour of Europe. Mrs Pierce and Mrs McQuarrle were welcomed as new members of the club. Scholarship Winners Guests Thursday of Soroptimist Club Guests of Soroptimist Internat ional of Heppner at their Thurs day noon meeting were Miss Jo ann Brosnan and Miss Shirley Kononen. Miss Brosnan is the 1958 recip nent of the club's college scholar ship and she told of her plans for the coming year. Miss Konon en received the scholarship in 1957 and she told the club about some of the interesting things that happened during her first year at Oregon State college. Mrs Adolph Heyden of Stan field was also a guest at the meeting. Wedding Date Told By Miss Sharon Rill Mr and Mrs L H Rill announce the coming marriage , of their daughter, Sharon to Capt Law rence E Trout of the U S Air Force, Mather Air Force Base, California. They will be married Sunday, September 7 at 2:00 pm at the Air Base chapel. A reception will follow at the officers club. Mr and Mrs Rill will leave the first part of September to attend the ceremony. Sunday Picnic Honors Birthday Employees of the Heppner Ran ger District and their families gathered for a picnic Sunday at the Bull Prairie guard station to celebrate the birthday of Mrs Sam McDaniel. Among those present were Mr and Mrs McDaniel, John Rogers, Lois Boyce, Vince Rulien, Lance Tibbies, Tom Christian, Mrs Oma Cox and the families of Mattlon Hicks, Walt Tinli.n, Vic Kreimey er, Don Clark and Fred Prussing. The wedding will be an event of Friday, September 5 at Gresh am, Oregon. Gribbles Entertain Duplicate Club The Duplicate Bridge club met Sunday evening at the Lowell Gribble home. Those present were Mr and Mrs LaVerne Van Marter, Dr and Mrs Wallace Wolff, Mr and Mrs C E McQuarrle, Mr and Mrs Gordon Pratt, Mr and Mrs Richard Mea dor and Mr and Mrs Gribble. High couple for the evening was Mrs McQuarrie and Mr Mea dor, second high was Mr Pratt and Mrs Gribble. ATTENDS TOURNAMENT Among those from the Willow Creek Country club who were In John Day Monday and Tuesday to play in an invitational tour nament were Mrs P W Mahoney. Mrs Owen Smith drove to Pen dleton Thursday taking her sis ter to catch a train back to her home in Montana. Mr and Mrs Ed What and son of Kinzua visited at the George Capon home Sunday. Son Hill and daughter Jean, and Kay Swlck left Wednesday morning for Portland with a load of stock. Mr and Mrs Robert Gertson returned Monday from their hon eymoon in Canada. Her two child ren, who had spent the past month with their grandparents In Portland, returned with them. Doris Capon, Kay Swlck and Lois Hill and daughter Jeanle were in John Day Saturday. Mrs Forest Noland and her sis. ter, Mrs Ansil Martin were in John Day Monday on business. Business callers in John Dav on Tuesday were. Lee Jones, Mrs ivan smnn and children, Ernie Johnson, Cecil Rinehart. Robert Scott, Mr and Mrs Jack Forrest and three children,' Mrs Charlie Roach, Joan DuBosch, Mrs Bob Kingman, Mrs Sam Scott. Mrs Earl Lewis and baby accompanied them to Monument to visit her folks, the Bud Engles and Mrs Ray Davis, until Labor Day. Jim Croker was in Pendleton on Tuesday. He Is man ager here of the Columbia Power Co-op. Mr and Mrs Clayton Sweek and two sons of Springfield arrived Saturday to visit her sister and family, the Verne McCartys. Sun day they took their niece Miss Elaine Reynolds with them on a two weeks trip to Yellowstone National park. Mr and Mrs J A Lewis and famiiv nf San Leandro, Calif ornia arrived August 16 to visit his folks, the Elmo Lewis family and his sister, Mrs Ray Davis, until Labor Day. Mr and Mrs Bob Kingman of California, her father Elmer Mat teson, and sister, Mrs Jessie Scott and son spent Thursday up Wall creek at the Verne Mccany ranch. Mrs Louise Scott of Top visited at the Matteson home Friday. Mrs Doris KinEman drove her sister, Mrs Jessie Scott and son to John Day Friday for medical aid for Robert Scott Mr and Mrs Ivan Smith took five children to John Day Sat urday evening to the show. Mr and. Mrs Gus Peterson and two sons drove to Portland Fri day morning, taking her aunt, Mrs Cora Densmore and niece, Judith Grant to catch the plane to their home in Kitchlner, On tario. Canada. Thev have been visiting here since the first of August. Mr and Mrs Bob Kingman left for their home in California, af ter a family dinner at the Matte son home. Those attending the dinner were Dale Matteson of Heppner, Doris and Bob King man, Sam, Jessie and Robert Scott, and Mr and Mrs Elmer Matteson. Louise Scott Is spending her time at her daughters, Cora Stub bleleld. while the Gus Petersons are In Portland. Mr and Mrs Ansil Martin were In Heppner for the weekend. They visited her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Nels Bailey and Mr and Mrs Garv Oliver. The state forester .reports no fires' for the week of August 17 24. Mrs Chet Neff and two child ren of Milwaukie, Oregon and her mother, Mrs Hie Stewart of John Day visited at the George Stirritt home the past week. Laura Lee Shank, Diana Lea thers accompanied by Rev Jack Chann went to Portland Monday morning for a church meeting. Mr and Mrs Compton Moffet of Burns and her sister frorn Palm Springs, California spent the weekend at the George Stirrit home. Mrs Addie Osborn of Court rock spent Saturday visiting at the Fred Shanks home. Ruby Geinger accompanied by Mrs Sophia Leasie of Fox drove to Hermiston to visit Ruby's mo ther, Mrs Julie Jackson. While there Ruby will take in the school of instruction at Pendle ton for the hot lunch program. The state forestry office here is busy getting a new drain field put in the septic tank for the house and office. Mr and Mrs Ed Rounds went to Madras Sunday taking their two grandsons home and will visit a few days with their son and wife, Mr and Mrs Melvin Rounds.
