Mill Employees Foisted At Picnic About 150 employees and their families of the Heppner Pine Mills were guests at the first an nual picnic given by the White Swan Lumber Company for the Hefpner Pine Mills at Brooks Memorial Park near Goldendale, Wash Sunday. Over 300 attended. Games and baseball were play ed after the dinner. Special prizes were won by Mr and Mrs Eddie Gunderson, Mr and Mrs Ray Thalberg and Mrs j Bill Turner. Mr and Mrs Dewey , Brltt won the prize for the couple I who had been married the long- est period of time; Mr and Mrs I Marvin Casebeer for the couple I married the shortest time and Del Madson for the best looking I logger. I Mr and Mrs Dee Jones were judges with others from White Swan; Marcelle Phillips and Chuck Bonaudi were in charge of the picnic and Phil Hitchcock wis master of ceremonies. Hospital Auxiliary Holds Sunday Picnic Nursing home patients at the Pioneer Memorial hospital were entertained with a picnic on the courthouse lawn given by mem bers of the Hospital Auxiliary Sunday afternoon. Dinner was furnished by the auxiliary and ice cream by the Heppner Cream ery. Patients were transported by Harry Bongers, hospital manager, and accompanied by Mrs Eva Cauwdry, hospital registered nurse. In addition to patients, others attending were Mr and Mrs Gar ence Rosewall, Mrs Alex Green, Mr and Mrs Gar Swanson, lone; Mr and Mrs Harry Bongers and Mrs Cauwdry. Hot Chicken And Cool Soup For Supper Duplicate Club Meets At Dr Wolff's Home I Dr and Mrs Wallace Wolff en tertalned the duplicate bridge fclub at their home Sunday even j lng. Members attending were Mr land Mrs La Verne Van Marter, Mr and Mrs Dick Meador, Mr and Mrs C E McQuarrie, Mr and Mrs ; Lowell Gribble and Mr and Mrs Torn Wilson. I Mrs Wolff and Tom Wilson were high partner for the even ing and Mrs Van Marter and I Dick Meador, second high. Surprise Party Fetes Larry Tibbies On Fifteenth Birthday Larry Tibbies was surprised Saturday evening when a group of friends arrived at the home of his parents, Dr and Mrs L D Tibbies, to help him celebrate his 15th birthday. Guests were Fern Albert, Mary Slocum, Marlene Griffin, Barbara Seiwert, Jeanne Schmidt, Doris Morris, Nancy Moyer, Larry Tib bies, Rodney Flug, Tom Green, Stewart Gribble, David Creswick, and Lance Tibbies. Tom Glass and Neal Penland were hosts for the party. Mrs Duval I Hostess For Sunday Picnic. Combine 2 cans (10Va oz. each) condensed cream of celery soup, well chilled with 2 soup cans of ice cold milk. Shake, mix or blend and pour into four tall glasses. YIELD: 4 generous servings. Skillet Barbecued Chicken 1 broiler-fryer chicken 2 tablespoons salt cut in pieces l teaspoon pepper a tablespoons molasses Vt cup water JA cup prepared mustard y2 cup vinegar Vt cup salad oil Wash and dry chicken. Combine molasses, prepared mustard salt and pepper. Add water, vinegar and oil; blend well. Dip chicken into sauce. Cook in heavy skillet over medium heat, brushing with additional sauce until tender, about 30 to 45 minutes. YIELDi 4 servings. ! Mr and Mrs William J Van- Winkle and family motored to Hood River Sunday taking their daughter, Linda and Deanna Hays, who have been visiting her grandparents Mr and Mrs ' Earl Warner where they met Mr and Mrs Clarence Hays of Cor vallis who took the girls back with them. Eugene Wardwell (Satch) re turned to his base in Florida af ter a furlough with his parents, Mr and Mrs Eugene Wardwell. Mrs Pine Thornburg and Mrs Dean Hunt were Pendleton visi tors Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Burt Darnielle and daughter, Betty returned to their home Monday after a trip to East Lake. Mrs A F Majeske has return ed home after a few weeks spent in Vancouver, Washington where she was receiving medical at tention. Mrs Jack Mounts and son Stevie returned home with her for a visit. Mrs Bernlece Wihlon and dau ghter, Mrs Barbara Williams and children were in Emmet, Idaho over the weekend. Unemployed Korean veter ans and former federal employ ees who have exhausted their claims since June 30, 1957 are eligible provided they have no benefits now payable under oth er state federal law. Claims may be filed on or after, July 14 at any of the commission's 26 of fices throughout the state. "We don't foresee a heavy in crease in claims resulting from the temporary Unemployment Compensation program," said Mr Norton. "By the very highest esti mate there are about 2500 po tential claimants under the com bined federal and veterans' pro grams. We know that many of these same people have return ed to work and that many more will find jobs soon because of relatively high employment op portunity during the summer months." Mr and Mrs Fred Shanks left Wednesday morning with a truck load of cattle for Madras. They returned Thursday night after the sale. Mrs Bud Engle of Courtrock and her mother, Mae McWillis visited at the Matteson home Wednesday.
