Special Benefits
For Unemployment
All offices of the Oregon Em
ployment Service started taking
claims under the temporary Un
employment Compensation pro
gram on Monday, July 14, it
was announced by John A Nor
ton, administrator of the Un
employment Compensation Com
mission. Unemployed Korean veter
ans and former federal employ
ees who have exhausted their
claims since June 30, 1957 are
eligible provided they have no
benefits now payable under oth
er state federal law. Claims may
be filed on or after, July 14 at
any of the commission's 26 of
fices throughout the state.
"We don't foresee a heavy in
crease in claims resulting from
the temporary Unemployment
Compensation program," said Mr
Norton. "By the very highest esti
mate there are about 2500 po
tential claimants under the com
bined federal and veterans' pro
grams. We know that many of
these same people have return
ed to work and that many more
will find jobs soon because of
relatively high employment op
portunity during the summer
months."
