HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Mrs Palmer New President of lone Arnica Club by Echo Palmateer Mrs Lee Palmer was elected president of the Arnica club at a meeting Jan 22 at the home of Mrs Lewis Halvorsen. Mrs Garry Tullls was elected vice president and Mrs A E Stefani, secretary treasurer. Mrs Clyde Crawford was the outgoing president. Games were played after the meeting and those receiving prizes were Mrs Halvorsen Mrs Paul Pettyjohn and Mrs Tullls Mrs Crawford and Mrs Richard Rhea were the hostesses. $5 was given to the March of Dimes. Mr and Mrs W B Rice cele brated their 50th wedding anni versary Saturday Jan 25 at the home of Mrs W J Silbin in The Dalles with a reception from 2 to 5 p m. and Mrs Lloyd Rice, Mrs and Mrs Barnard Rice, Mr and Mrs Delbert Rice and Mr and Mrs John Alder were the hosts. Mr and Mrs Rice were married Jan 22, 1908 in Sherman county. They lived in lone com munity for several years and now make their home In The Dalles. They have three sons, Lloyd, Barnard and Delbert and one daughter, Mrs John Alden. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Rice and son, Bobby attended the reception from here. Mr and Mrs Verner Troedson1, returned last week from a six weeks trip. They went to Chicago where they visited relatives and purchased a new car. They then went to Washington, D C and to Annapolis where they visited rel atives. They attended the Orange Bowl game n Miami Florida on New Year's day, spent Christmas in Havana,, Cuba, went to New Orleans, through Texas and vis ited with Mr and Mrs Sam Pom erantz in Los Angeles. Also vis ited relatives in San Jose and San Francisco. DATES TO REMEMBER: Jan 31 potluck dinner at the Fredrick Martin home at 6 p m. All membtrs of the gar den club and their families are welcome. A surprise house warming par ty was given Mr and Mrs Roger Kincaid at their home the ev ening of Jan 18. There were 19 present. Pinochle, Scrabble and Sorry were played. Those receiv ing prizes were John Jepsen, Rog. er Kincaid, Mrs Jimmy Petty john and Mrs Howard Crowell. A money tree was presented to the Kincaids. The hostesses were Mrs Elmer Holtz, Mrs Arthur Warren and Mrs Pettyjohn. The Kincaids have remodeled their home recently. The American Legion Auxili ary held their social party at their hall Tuesday evening Jan 21. Pinochle was played and those receiving prizes were, Walter Corley and Mrs G Her mann, high and G Hermann and Mrs Walter Corley low. Mrs Cleo Drake received the 300 pinochle and Mrs Hermann the door prize. The hostesses were Mrs David McClood, Mrs Ted Palmateer, Mrs Earl McCabe and Mrs Cecil Thome. . i Mrs Clell Rea gave a birthday dinner in honor of Mr Rea Wed nesday evening Jan 23. Present were Mr and Mrs Richard Rea, Mr and Mrs Keith Rea and son, LeRay Jerald, Dallas, Francis, John, and Katherine Rea. Mrs Milton Morgan entertain ed the Three Links club of the Rebekah lodge at her home Thursday Jan 23. After the bus iness meeting games were play ed and Mrs Cecil Thome receiv ed the prize. Mrs O L Lundell received the door prize. Dick Hughs of Blackfoot, Idaho is visiting his brother, John Hu ghs. The American Legion enter tained at a party and dance at their hall Saturday evening. An orchestra from Pendleton furnl shed the music. ADR3 Sam Barnett of the U S Navy is on a 30 day leave and is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs Ray Barnett. He has been at Point Mugu, California and now will be transferred to the Hawaiian Islands. Mr and Mrs Leonard Carlson report that they have purchased a house on N E 114th Portland and will move there some time in March. Their son Louis will take over the farm which Is in the Gooseberry community. Mrs Cleo Drake spent a couple of days last week in Pendleton with her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Ray Turner. Among those home from col lege this week are Mrs Joseph Kalister and Judy Mason from Pacific University; Dick Sherer, Dick Ekstrom, Larry Rietmann and Robert Hubbard from E O C E; Kenneth Brenner, Lindsay Kincaid, Bill Brannon and Leland McKinney, Taul Miller from Oregon Tech. Mrs G V Crumb of Morton, Wash spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs Grace Ware and her sister and family, Mr and Mrs Noel Dobyns. Mr and Mrs Dick Ekstrom and daughter, Vickey, of La Grande spent the weekend with relatlv- JUJ 49 QT. Knowing the con servative nature of most people they save things they never use any more because they are too good to throw away. Why not have an auction sale? It might be something someone else could use. The committee Is now look ing for a place where these arti cles might be stored till sale date should the club approve. Since we are exchanging play days with the Sage Riders they suggested we invite Arlington and Spray to join us on these two days. Wouldn't it be fun? Perhaps lucrative as well. Mrs Harry Ring left Sunday for Salem where she vicited her sis ter and brother-in-law. They will leave from there to visit her par ents Mr and Mrs Roger Allen in New Mexico. Mrs Annette Obert of Elgin is visiting her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs John Potts. Ivan Parkers who has been a student at the Northwest Nazar ene college in Nampa, Idaho, is now a student in the lone high school. Mr and Mrs Richard Botts who have been visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs James Botts, are visiting relatives in Irrigon. Mr and Mrs Bill Rietmann and son, Mark were Arlington visi tors Sunday. Mrs Omar Laney of Arlington was a visitor lor several days last week at the Earl Warner home. Mr and Mrs Warner were Walla Walla visitors on Thursday where they were called by the Gienger of Cottonwood, and to this union 2 children were born. Surviving are his wife, Sophie, daughter, Mrs Loyd "Irene" Os born, and son Arley Leasy, all Fox, besides the grandchildren and one sister Mrs H D Godfrey of Homedale Idaho. Services were conducted by the Rev Albert Chann officiating. The church choir sang "In the Garden," "Beautiful Isle,, and "Beyond the Sunset." Pall bears were Alton Mc- Theron King. Interment was in the Hamilton Cemetery. Maynard has been employed the past 2 weeks at the homes of Roy and Harold Corks where they are both adding on to their houses.
