Mrs. Bryce Keene, vice president of the club, presided at the meeting. Mrs. E. M. Baker read the recom mended amendments to the by laws and constitution -and also the history of the club. The club was organized in 1943 and has done much toward assisting the lone community church. It was voted to send clothing to the Mc Kinley Indian Mission at Toppen ish, Wash. - There are around four boxes of used clothing ready to be sent. A card of thanks was sent to the Heppner Cleaners in apprecia tion of their work in cleaning the clothing. It was announced that the annual women's retreat of the Oregon Fellowship of Congregational women would be held at Camp Adams July 24-26. Mrs. Wate Crawford received the door prize. Mrs. Pete Cannon gave a party for her daughter, Cathy, Thurs day July 11. She was three years old. Others present were John, Pamela and Lisa McCabe, Franc es, Bill. Palmateer of Estacada spent Sunday with relatives here. They also visited H. O. Ely at the Pio neer Memorial hospital. Harvesting is getting under way in this community. Most all of the farmers in the Morgan district are combining and sev eral north of lone are starting this week. Much of the grain south of lone is still not ripe enough to combine. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buschke and two sons of Los Angeles are staying with his father, Ed Buschke at Morgan, and are helping during harvest. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pomerantz of North Hollywood, Calif., and Henry Clark and son, Lowell of Ordnance spent Sunday here Mrs. Pomerantz is a daughter of Mr. Clark and they are visiting him at Ordnance. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen and family returned last week from a trip to Yellowstone park. They went through Unity where they visited the John Ranciers and through Idaho. They return ed by way of Spokane and Grand Coulee dam. Mr. and Mrs. Alyri Hoak of Los Alamos, N. M. are the parents of a son, Cary Lynn, born June 29. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hoak of Seattle are the grandparents and Fred Ely of lone is the great grandfather. Mardine Baker spent a few days last week with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ron ald Baker near Hermiston. Lois Messinger of Hermiston is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Winnie Zinter. Miss Betty Gorger of Pendle ton is visiter her sister and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. David Baker. Mrs. Franklin Ely, who is at tending summer school in Port land spent the weekend at home. Mrs. Melvin Melena and sons returned home last week from Minnesota where they visited rel atives. Fire Takes Wheat A fire of unknown origin burn ed about 20 acres of Omar wheat on the Ray Heimbigner ranch Friday of last week about noon. Mr. Heimbigner finished cutting barley near there and pulled the combine to the shop about 10 a. m. Ralph Crum, who was cutting barley near by saw the fire and with his bulldozer and with help from neighbors soon put the fire out. They remained for a longer visit at the Eubanks home. Lt. LeRoy Brenner is spending his leave with his parents Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brenner He was accompanied, by Lt Gordon Sees er of Clinton, Iowa. Both boys are in the Air Force and have been stationed at Phoenix, Ariz. They will be transferred to Ral eigh, N. C. Miss Janice Garrett of Portland was, also, a visitor at the Brenner home. Visitors at the Franklin Ely home over the weekend were, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Perry and child ren of Portland and Wayne Mel on of Forest Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Devine of North Bonneville were guests at Mrs. Ida Grabill and son Gene, are visiting relatives in 'Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McCabe and children Mr. and Mrs. Rob. ert DeSpain and sons, Mr and Mrs. Tom Corliss McLeod and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cannon and child ren spent Sunday at Maryhill museum and The Dalles. Showers Given A pink and blue shower was given in honor of Mrs. Tom White in the Community church parlor Tuesday evening July 9. Judy Mason, Mrs. Gordon White ahd Katherine Rae assisted with the gifts. The hostesses were Mrs. Dick Ekstrom, Mrs. Richard Rae, Mrs. Roger Kincaid, Mrs. Pat Do herty, Mrs. Keith Rae, Mrs. Elm er Holts and Mrs. Jimmie Petty john. Gaylord Salter was a patient in Pioneer Memorial hospital last week.
