Ptf A 4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, July 18, 1957 North Morrow Fair Set Sept. 5-7 Ey Mary Lee Marlow Dates for the North Morrow! county fair have been announced for Sept. 5-7. Members of the fair board this year are Zearl Gill espie, chairman and Willard Ba ker of Boardman, and Warren McCoy of Iirigon. Mrs. Ralph Skoubo of Boardman is secretary treasurer. Mrs. Skoubo announc ed that the premium lists will be mailed out as soon as they come from the printers. The annual soil conservation tour was held last Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Glen Aldrich farm at Irrigon where weed control in irrigation ditches were observed. At the H. H. Whipple farm new seedings and 1957 land leveling were seen, as well as a new way to hold newly j constructed ditch banks where you want them. Next the tourj went to the Paterson Ferry road where they saw how sand blows are being controlled. A fripd chicken dinner was served at noon at the Boardman city park. In charge were Mrs, Raiph Skoubo and Mrs. Ed Skou bo, assisted by Mrs. Arnold Hoff man, Mrs. Charles Iliguera and Mrs. William Garner. Dinner wa served to 25 people. In the afternoon tho tour wen to the Charles Andtregg fram where they saw wheat growing on reclaimed alkali land that had been thought impossible to grow a crop. Next the AK in Drake farm was visited to view a good past ure seeding. Clyde Tannehill and Walter Hayes were appoint ed for town, Mrs. Nathan Thorpe and Mrs. Frank Marlow for the east end, and Mrs. Russell Miller and Mrs. Earl B r i g g s for the west end. Hosts for the evening refresh ments were Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marlow. The Home Econorrics club of Greenfield grange met last week at the hall, with lurch at 12 30 p.m. Hostesses were Mrs. Elvin Ely and Mrs. Frank Marlow. There were 10 members present, and a visitor was Mrs. Al Lovgren of Rhea creek grange, who was visiting her sister, Mrs. Walter Hayes. The Tillicum club met Tues day night of last week at the home of Mrs. Harold Baker. Mrs. Dewey West, president, was in charge of the meeting, which opened the club with "Collect." Mrs. Ralph Skoubo and Mrs. Vefnon Russell were appointed to assist Mrs. Ronald Black in preparing the year's program and yearbook Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kress and son Ivan, accompanied by Kress's mother, Mrs. Emma Kress of Lewiston, Ida., returned home on Saturday from a nine day trip to Calgary, Alta., and to Okatokos, Alta., where they visited at the home of Kress's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Zimmer man. Mrs. Kress Is visiting this week at the Kress home. Visitors Sunday and Monday were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stelnhaus of Nam pa, Idaho Mr. and Mrs. Wayne White of Odenburg, N. Y. were visitors last Thursday urul Friday at the home of Mrs. White's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Watts. Marilyn and Dennis Van Atta of Sunnyside, Wash, are visiting this week at the home of their uncle and aunt Mr. .and Mrs. Joe Crouch. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Skoubo this week are Ronnie Cawood of Portland, and Mrs Skoubo's niece Joan Luhrs of Corvallis. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Veele of Estacada were weekend visitors at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs went to Terrebonne over the weekend to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mix. Mr. and Mrs. Russell DeMauro of Hood River visited at the home of Mrs. DeMauro's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Skoubo Sunday. Mrs. Skoubo ac companied them home to visit this week. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Ferguson and daughter Tracy of Coeur d'Alene, Ida., visited at the homes of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnin Hug and Mr. andMrs. Guy Ferguson, over the weekend. Saturday a birthday party was held at the Hug home in honor of Hug's birthday and the first birthday of Tracy Ferguson. Guests were the Fergusons, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bedford and Leonard, Jr., Greg and Billie, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Higuera, Jr. and daugh ters Susan and Karen, Charles Higuera, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zunker and sons of Ken newick, Wash.
