Other visitors were Mr. and The city council approved the Mrs. Ken Henry and three child- installation of 12 street lights in the city at a recent meeting. Final arrangements have been made with the Umatilla Electric Cooperative Asscoiation at Her miston to install the lights. Mrs. Rollin Bishop was hostess for a shower at her home Friday night in honor of Miss' Beverly Pettys of Pendleton, bride elect of Richard A McFarlane of Board man. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Claud Coats, Mrs. Walter Hayes, Mrs. Zearl Gillespie and Mrs. Florence Root. Present from out of town were the honoree's mo ther, Mrs. Gib Pettys of Pendle ton, and her great aunt, Mrs. Al Macomber of Arlington. Others present were Mrs. Nate Macom ber, grandmother of the bride-to-be, Mrs. Joe Tatone, Mrs. Russell Miller, Mrs. Wayne Kuhn, Mrs. Vernon Russell, Mrs. Arthur Al len, Mrs. Glen Carpenter, Mrs. Seth Russell, Mrs. Margaret Klitz, Mrs. Nathan Thorpe, Mrs. Eldon Shannon, Mrs. Louise Earwood, Mrs. Ralph Skoubo, Mrs. Sigvald Aase, Mrs. Don Downey, Mrs. Ronald Black, Mrs. Dewey West, Mrs. Victor Neal, Mrs. Frank Mar low, Mrs. Cecil Hamilton, Lorna Shannon and Wanda- Forthman. Mrs. Zearl Gillespie and Mrs. Victor Neal won prizes in a game played. Many lovely gifts were received by the honoree, and several gifts were sent by those unable to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Wetherell of Corvallis were visitors at the home of Wetherell's cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey West, last Thurs. McKinney is FFA instructor at Salem, and taught school at Arlington eigh teen years ago, at which time the Wests, the Wetherell's and Mrs. Henry were all students in his classes. Rex Ianson attended school in Boardman about two years ago. He and Mcltinney were returning from the FFA con. vention held in La Grande last week. In the late evening the Wests and Wetherells went to Walla Walla, Wash. Mrs. Ronald Black and daugh ter Diane returned home last Friday from Tooele, Utah, where they visited for two and a half weeks at the home of Mrs. Black's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. I. Ove son, and other relatives. Greenfield grange met Thurs day night at the hall with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Skoubo and Mrs. William Garner as hosts. Potluck supper started at 6:30 p. m. There were 24 present. Preceeding the business meet ing the lecturer's hour included two films shown by Norman Nel son, Boardman Civil Defense director. The films, "Let's Face It" and "A New Look At the Hy drogen Bomb", depicted what could happen to our cities and rural communities in case of an enemy attack. A committee was appointed to investigate the purchase of a movie screen for the hall. They were Mrs. Earl Briggs, Russell Miller and Ralph Skoubo. The Home Economics club of Greenfield grange met Wednes day afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Ralph Skoubo with Mrs. William Garner co hostess. There were 13 members present. Mrs. Elvin Ely was hostess for a farewell party at her home on Wednesday afternoon of last week in honor of Kathy Sue Farmer. She was assisted by Mrs. Frank Parmer and Mrs. Harold Baker. Kathy Sue and her mother are leaving to live in Metropolis, 111. while SSgt Frank Parmer will be stationed with the airforce in Greenland. Present were Dennis Gronquist, Dick Skoubo, Roger Zivney, Allan Moore, Jimmie Partlow, Donnie Aardappei, Kerry Daniels, Carina Malone, Alberta Carpenter, Sandra McKenzie, Anita Garner, Dewena West, Anna May McQuaw and Patty Beall of Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Lilly and children Jimmie, Janet, Jay and Jerry of La Grande spent the spring vacation at the home of Mrs. Lilly's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely. Saturday Mrs. Ely and daughter Eileen, and Mrs. Lilly and Janet, Jay and Jerry all went to Richland, Wash, to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Newell Vaught. Mrs. Florence Root has re turned home from Wasco where she visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Root, who moved there recently from Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beall of Eugene were weekend visitors at the home of Mrs. Beall's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayes. Patty Beall returned home with them after visiting Iict grandparents, for a week. Farmers are busy getting early potatoes seeded. John Partlow has finished seeding, and Russell Miller and Ralph and Ed Skou bo are now planting. The Tillicum club met Tuesday night of last week at the home of Mrs. Sigvald Aase with 14 members present. Mrs. George Wiese, Mrs. Ron ald Black and Mrs. Gunnar Skou. bo were appointed as a commit tee to select a princess for the Morrow county fair. Monument News By Martha Matteson Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sweek of Ridgefield, Wash., and daughter Miss Karol Sweek of Junction City, Ore., were visiting their other daughter and family, the. Roy Bowmans and a son Jack Sweek. Mrs. Forrest Noland drove her mother Mrs. Ernie Johnson to Pendleton Friday for medical aid. Mrs. Chrystle Enright went to Long Creek to .her son Ivan's home Thursday and was driven on to Pendleton Friday for a checkup. She spent the rest of the weekend there, returning Monday. Cecil Rinehart spent the four days of spring vacation in Pen dleton returning Sunday evening to drive the school bus on Monu ment mountain road. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rounds spent Friday and Saturday at Hardman visiting her uncle and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Huston Les lie. Joe Batty of La Grande was in for the weekend at the Henry Cupper ranch. IONE School Notes The speech festival will be held Marth 26 beginning at 1:30 p. m. with one act plays in the evening. A meal will be served in the evening for those staying over. The band concert will be held in La Grande March 23. lone will play their first base ball game in Arlington Friday, March 22 at 3:30 p. m. There will be an assembly for both boys and girls Monday March 25 at 9 a. m. on the armed forces. Men and women of the armed forces will have charge of the program. March 26 an as sembly will be held on Wild Life at 9 a. m. Report cards will be given out March 27. The Girl's League is planning the athletic banquet for March 29. Among the teachers going away for the Spring vacation were superintendent R. H. Mrs. Carl Cox took her daugh ter to Heppner for medical care. Mrs. Shirley Ogle and Mrs. Stan ley Musgrave accompanied her and Mrs. Musgrave stopped at Hardman to visit her father, John Stevens, Mrs. Oleta R. Farrens was nomi nated for the position of post mistress at Monument last week by President Eisenhower to sue ceed Mrs. D. V. Mantis who has resigned. The nomination was sent to the senate for confirma tion Mr. and Mr,s. Mead Gilman left Wednesday to spend a week with their sons and families, Mead, Jr. and Seattle and Donald at Cor bett, Ore. They will also visit his mother on the coast. Meredith Thomson, reporter 4-H ELECTRICITY CLUB The fourth and fifth grade Electricity elb met last Tuesday after school and decided that we would name our club "The Reddy Kilowatts". The meeting was held in Mrs. Ely's room at the school and was called to order by president Lee Hams. We did the first lesson out of our project book which consisted of "a bag of tricks." These weren't really tricks but simple electricity facts that are rather amazing. We took turns in per forming them and we each had to do at least one to get Mr. Hausler to sign our project book.
