W. lodges of Junction, Hurrisburg, Halsey and Brownsville, have committees appointed to make arrangements for a joint picnic In Powell's grove some two or three miles south of Hslsey. The date has not been named yet but It will likely be some time during the last of May. Junction City Times. Hiram Baker informs us that he has made a very large number of sales of the Featherbone corsets lately. Mr. Baker said that be was satisfied the cause of so many sales waa the ad vertising of those corsets in this paper, thus letting so many people know the value of these popular corsets. The manufacturers guarantee the corsets, but out of ull these sales only one has been returned, and the bouse refunded the money to Mr. Baker at once. This shows that the manufacturers are re liable. George F. Russell, who, in March 1894, at Albany, was convicted of em bezzlement of public funds while occu pying the official position of aahool suieriulendent of Linn oeunty and sentenced to the penitentiary for four years, is now breathing the air outside of prison walls. He was discharged from that Institution yesterday and today will depart for Portland, thence o California. Shortly after being reoeived at Ilia penitentiary Russell was made trusty and by bis excellent conduct gslecd sufficient credit marks to reduce his term one-half. States man. A thrilling incident was observed Tuesday afternoon on Mary's tlver bridge. Two teams, in the vehicle at tached to ope of which were two chil dren, were crossing the bridge en route to town. When they Were fairly on the bridge a runaway team came dash ing out of town in the direction of the bridge. There was no time for the teams to get across and it was Impossi ble to turn around. On rams the frightened span, and not far from the center of the bridge they met, aud strange lo say, passed without dam age to either of the two vehicles.
