the 400 heirs of the Anneke Jans estate
In the heart of New York. This estate
has been In litigation since 18S7, and
lute developments indicate 11 probabil
ity qf the belts succeeding. It is to be
hoped the heirs may prove their rights
to this princely estate. Mrs. Eldredge
of Lebanon, is one of the numerous
heirs to this magnificent fortune.
A Little Hero.
Sunday, while the two boys of Dr.
DuGas were playing near Deer creek,
11 Douglas county, they started to
cross the Btream on it plunk. The
youngest, Berlie, S years old, fell into
the stream, but his older brother, Leon
7 years old, seized the younger by the
suspenders and held him up till Mis.
R. M. Couckliug, who lived near by,
ran to his relief and by wading into
the water nearly waist-deep, brought
Bertie safe to tlm shore and thus saved
bim from drowning. It was a rather
cold bath for Mrs. Conklltig, but she
did not hesitate a moment when life
depended 011 her prompt sclion,
though at great risk of her health and
possibly her own life, Little Leou ex
hibited a heroism that commends him
to the admiration of all.
Demurrer Overruled,
The demurrer In the case of the state
of Oregon vs Stimewull Siitlieiliu, an

overruled by Judge Fullerton.Tuesday.

ing next term. When this case comes
up for hearing, we may anticipate
some startling developments regarding
this conspiracy to help Brown, says
the Roseburg Plaindealer. It is hoped

county this matter will be probed to

doubtless well considered this matter
aud wisely decided to hove a thorough
Investigation of this plot to thwart
Justice by a plain violation of the law

TWO KILLED IN A DAY.
A Brakeman and a Boy Killed in
Seattle.
Seattle, Wash., April ll.-ItudolpU
BlooniqulMtxau 11-yeur-oIil boy, the sou
of an artist of this city, was run over
by nn electric street cur this morning
and instantly killed. The lad was
stealing a ride on a baker's wagon and
when driven off by the driver, Jumped
to escape the lush and landed under
the forward wheels of u cur passing iu
an opposite direction. Tho car ran
over the body, crushing it btdly, and
the wheels cut oil both legs above the
knees.
John C. Roberts, a brakeman on the
Great Northern work train, was killed
here this evening while trying to cut
oft a car from tho main train. He did
uot understand the automatic coupler,
for he pulled the lever on the "cut-off
car," held oil and was jerked bead
first to the ground. The wheels of the
ear on which ho had been slauding
passed over his chest.
OREGON STONE.
It Will Be Used in the Construction of a
San Francisco Building.
Salem, Or., April 10. George W.
Duvis, of the Pioneer Stone Company,
is in receipt of a telegram announcing
that the stone of tbo Oregon Pioneer
quarry, on Yaquina bay, has been
selected to be used in the construction
of the San Francisco Call building.
There has been some effort in Califor
nia to create a prejudice against Ore
gon building stone in favor of the Cali
fornia product, but Oregon contluues
to get some very desirable contracts.

furnished the stone for the ferry depot
and the handsome Parrott building, in
San Francisco.'
