D. C. Alieenteeism tn the senate has become such a habit that it became necessary to transfer from one committee to an other Senator Borah's resolution for an investigation of the contribution« to presidential campaign funds In asking such transfer Senator Borah | explained it was necessary becauar i absence of senators had made it im- nosaible to get a quorum of the com mittee to which the resolution wa» originally referred. "It is difficult to get a majority of any committee in «ession now ow ing to the alienee of so many senators,’’ sai<1 Senator Borah. Senator Thomas pointed out that the senate was transacting business with only a handful of m-nator» pre-i wnt. sometimes (Mowing appropria- lions of millions of dollars with only a few members in the chamber. Frequently it ha« tieen necessary to direct the sergeant at arm« to re quest the presence of senator».” It ia in this way that the majority party ia attending to the nation'a ■ business under the commiaaion given j to it in the congressional election of 1918; it ia merely marking time as part of its policy to do nothing until after the November election.
