It la the general oanu of pinion that there axe a large number of buyer who bev their, cash ready,' but are waiting; Uke Mlcawber, tor something to turn op. "What that something; la, la easy enough tm guess. ; v." . . One 4alwpute the matter jaw worus thus: , -v , : ' There are a larrt number of buyers who are simply welting to see where the Lewis ana (Jiera rmr im i vm iwww, and they will naturally endeavor to get . their money into property aa .near that . point ae. possible, tor they are shrewd hough, to aee that It will rise In value rapidly, aa the Exposition time nearer approaches." Persons from the country are leaving order at some of the real, estate pmce 19 ouy property as cioseiy to we w alte as jKMMlble. r There la a heavy and steadily In areas tag demand, aa most of dealers are agreed, for accessible tract of outlying acreage. Cheap homes In the suburbs are telng eagerly sought The greatest do- knand for property pot Inside the eity limits or closely contiguous thereto, is, according to one authority, for timbered tracts. . The demand for this class of property Is actually phenomenal. Easterners who have recently arrived In Oregon are greatly , taken with Its resources In the way of timber. They are apparently getting hold of It as rapid ly as possible, and it Is not going to be eo very many years before all available timber land will be taken up. Settlers are taking up 100-aore tracts for homes and are holding the timber as an revest' ment Under the Improved system of forest patrol and protection these In vestments are certain to no gooa ones with very little element of risk In them. Within the city there Is still a con stantly t Increasing demand for small . homes that will fit moderately slsed purses. Persons are still coming In from the country districts seeking to -buy homes In Portland. Ail Inside property that is In choice locations is steadily ad vanclng In valuation. With the recent Increase in lmmlgrajon, came the in creased demand for suburban property Almost anything In the house line rents readilr. and In fact the supply is far short of the demand. In the matter of sales recently reported, an acreage tract at Riverside "Homestead brought tlO.000. On Front street a half lot, owned by C. H. Plggott and wife, sold to A. II. Brown for 11000. Two lots changed hands at Orchard Place for $1000. A part of lot 7, block 179, was sold In Couch Addition for 1300. Other minor sales follow; Lot In Central Albtna for I1G00. Twelve lots In block 9,-Maegly High land. 12100. " Four lots In Caru there Addition. (1200. Two lota In South Portland for S1460. With the removal of the artificial re strictions Imposed by the strikes, publio confidence is gradually being restored, and building permits are gradually In creasing again in number and value. Mention of a few will suffice. A one and one-half-story cottage Is go ing up on Taooma avenue between Seventh and Eighth streets, to cost $1000. A two-story dwelling is being erected at the' corner of East Irving and Grand avenue, to cost S1G00. T. F. Megher Is putting up a two-story flat at Eleventh and Salmon streets, at a cost of $2600. Russell eVBlyth have taken out a per mit for repairs on a. building at the cor ner of Seventeenth and Morrison, to cost 3000. ' MARINE NOTES. .
