Spencer, pastor of the church acted
as chairman of the occasion, and set
forth tha pufpose of the meeting and
made all feel at home.
Mrs. Humphreys was first intro
duced and nvde a strong talk on be
half of home manufacturers and urg

food as are prduced in Oregon. Sac
stated that the housewife did 83 per
cent of the buying for the home But

Mrs. Humphreys made many valu
able suggestions in the interest of the
Oregon manufactjrer and consumer
and in all cases makes the appeal
that the manufactured article of the
home town should have first consid
eration. The next number of the list was a
selection by the Methodt Male i,-t-tette
which was well received.

speaker gave numerous examples of
distinguished men and women from
"unliKely places" who have been fac
tors in the world's greatest develop
ment in all tins of human progress.
The speaker cited to the humble be
ginning of Mrs. Burton, the great
foreign missionary; the story of the
birth, of Lincoln in a log hut over
which stands a marble palace today. '

Portland to Conduct Wij .

The opening of a new automobile
agency in Albany was formally an
nounced yesterday when E. L. Gets
and A. R. Grout, of Portland came to
this city to establish permanent resi
dences and. make this their future
homes. Messrs Gets and Grout have
purchased the Pacific Garage at Sec
ond and Ellsworth Streets and will
call their business the Willamvttv
Motor Car Company.
Messrs Jones and Geil, of the Paci
fic Garage, have leased the building
now occuiued by the Murphy .Motor
Co., and w'ill move into these quarters
as soon as the new Murphy building
ia finished. The Willamette Garage
will be entirely remodelled. A new
front with plate glass will be put in
and the front of the building will be
partitioned off into a sales room
where the Franklin and Scripa-Booth
car will be on display. The drive
way will be Installed on the west side
of the building, and windows will be
cut into the west wall.
Messrs Gets and Grout have the
agency for Linn, Lincoln and Benton
counties for the Franklin and General ,
Motors Corporation, and will handle;
in addition a truck line to be announc- j
ed later. Goodrich tires and a full line '
of automobile accessories. They have
employed one of the best repair men
in the state, an expert on Franklin
can, and will take care of the service '
work for the Franklin for the entire
upper end of the Willamette Valley.
The new Arm ia not entirely un
known to Albany people. Both mem
beis are graduates of the University
rf Oregon, being members of the Phi
Gamma Delta fraternity and were
popular In college circles during their
course at Eugene. Mr. Gets has heen
s'rving SJ superintendent fot the
Cruly Auo Co., of Portland, for the'
last two years. For five years previ
ous to that time he waa superintend
'nt of the Portland and Seattle as
sembly plants of the Ford Motor Co..
and has been n the automobile busi
ness since 1910.
Mr. Grout is an expert in the truck
end of the business, having served fur
two years as superintendent of all
as engine and automotive power and
truk equipment at the Willamette
Steel and Iron Works in Portland. For
the last two years he has been sales
manager of tU- ThomiJ Engine
Works, manufacturers and distribut
ers of gas engines and truck equip
ment, '
