is claimed by many, is the gamest and
scrappiest, inch for inch, of all the
finny tribe, the peer among game
fishes. There are two varieties, the

Salmon Fishing ia Passing
Salmon fishing, the greatest sport
in the world of angling, is now an ex-
pensive luxury, and precludes the

is no less exciting than that of tha
salmon. While in stream fishing for
small mouth bass, the beautiful scen
ery of trout fishing can be enjoyed.

an exciting incident to the angler,

him off his guard, and allow Mr. Basa
the hopea and fears of the angler are
constantly exercised, while hia heart
rises in hia throat and hia enthusiasm
is aroused. The beginner, experi
encing these thrills for tha first time,
is forever "hooked" and becomes a
sure enough fishing enthusiast.
Owing to the wide distribution of
black basa by state and fish commis
sions, he is now a resident of every
state in the union, and fishing for it
is universal.
Ever since the advent of the short
er bait casting rod, from five to aix
feet, in the early ninety', it ha gain
ed popularity with leap and bound.
Today it is universally used for bass,
pike, pickerel and muskellong fish
ing with frogs, baits and artificial
lures. Both in caating and trolling
with, short rod and quadruple multi
plying reel, the angler can, with prac
tice, drop the bait or hire into a pock
et in the weeds, at the edge of the
lilly pada, or beside an old log just
where Mr. Bass ia laying in wait for
food. Casting for fish with thia
equipment look extremely easy, but
when tried for the first few times, it
prove exceedingly difficult, and aome
weird back lashes are usually the
fruits of the first efforts.
However, practice develops the
skill required.
The expert tournament caster is '
evidence of this. Bait and fry casting -cannot
be learned through correspon
dence course or from other printed

with proper instructions can you be

tween representatives of Harvard
University and Dartmouth College, to
be held thia evening at Cambridge,
Mass. Glenn E. Plumb, originator .
