THE MAN A HOLT TOWN Sometimes the mighty fall though not endowed with life. The old bank counter that stood for so many years In the First National Bank building, the Man About Town Is informed is soon to appear in an entrrly different field. Hereafter the money going over It Instead of being plac ed to the depositors credit will simply pay for the drinks in an Albany saloon. Good sewerage and pure water are among the greatest questions that agitate an city, and are matters that should be continually Investigated in Albany as well as In other cities. In large cities there are regular Boards of Health who Inquire Into all kinds of drinking water It would be a proper thing, besides other investigation.to secure a good analysis of both the well and hydrant waterin Albany, both that coming from the Calipooia and "from the Santiam. The circus has gone but the small boy Is here and the show will be continued by the Tom Sawyers and Huckleberry Finns, of the city, and even the girls are a" little more u-ckiess than ordinarily. A 1'umcrov, V. T paper says that all t u- bent horses will be advertised in its col iimiis. The only horse ad. in the paper is that ot a mule. Curious country that. Two gentlemen from Tacoma and Spo kane Falls have been in the city, both old and popular citizens here. It is worth a jacknife to hear them tell about how dull it see. iied in rortlind on their wav here, and Albany, well, it almost puts them asleep to walk along our streets. i Y.M, C. A. Election-. The directors fof the newly organized Y M C A met last -evening and elected the following officers II Lee, president; M O Brink, vice ipresident; C D Woodworth, secretary ; E F Sox, treasurer. The entertainment was good and contained several fine features, well carried out not withstanding a big Wcbfoot shower that penetrated even the heavy canvas. The The clown was considerably more prmi r:neot than In the recent three ring affairs And obtained somewhat of the old time recognition of his ability and power as a Joker. "Corre again." Yaq.ui.va Bay. During the past few days men and boys have caught many bar rels of fine herring from the wharves. The tsh gather very thick around the piles and deposit their spawn. It is no trick at all to catch, with a dip net a bucket full of them in a few moments. .. .Next year Mr Case will build a three story addition, 30x65, to the Ocean House and furnish it with all the modern conveniences.. . .The first cir cus on Yaqufna Bay gave exhibitions on Tuesday and Wednesday at Yaqulna City.
