The trouble with Mexico is that its
clocks are two centuries behind this age
of civilization.
Mr. Hughes takes a good photograph,
hut until he harvests his crop of al­
falfa no one will know wnat his face
really looks like.
One needs only to look at the decrease
in crime in Oregon, the decrease in the
number of petty criminals at the rock-
piles in the several cities, the decrease
in the number of cases for divorce in
the divorce courts, and the increase of
deposits in the savings banks, to de­
termine how to vote intelligently on the
amendments to the prohibition law.
Of course there are those who would
■end the country to hadeas to have their
own way, or to make a few sheckles
without naving to work for them.
Prograss and poverty will mix no better
than oil and water and if prosperity is
to prevail it behooves every citizen in
every little hamlet like this of ours to
keep down the scallawag that would
upset prosperity and throw the people
in the gutter for the sake of getting a
few dollars. Let Oregon’s prosperity
continue, let the savings of the people
continue to grow, even if we are forced
to see some of these wet howlers work
to earn that which is necessary to keep
them alive.
