THE PLACE OF BARGAINS. Happenings of General Interest. Mr. and Mrs. M. 0. Clarke and little daughter, Erla, left Monday morning for Portland where they will spend a few weeks' vacation. Mrs. J. F. Downer left on Monday morning for Marshfield to viBit for some time with her parents. Miss Mabelle Larson returned last Saturday evening from a three weeks' vacation spent with friends in and around Salem. Mrs. W. L. Barker left on Sunday for Fossil where she will attend the Pioneer meet ings there.. Alex Hardie was a Condon vis itor a couple of days during the week. George Osborn was up from Gwendolen Saturday. J.W.Brown of John Day was a Condon business visitor last Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hein of Mayville were in town Saturday. " A. 0. Ralston was in the city the latter part of last week look ing after business matters. Con Schott of Olex attended the dance in the Armory. Hall last Friday evening. W. J. Mariner of Blalock was in this city over Sunday. J. D. Estes returned Saturday from Portland where he had been for a couple of weeks. " Tom Glover was down from Trail Fork the fore part of the week. H. B. Esson, of the Red Cross Co., returned Saturday from a two weeks' visit in Portland and The Dalles. - T. C. Queen, editor of the Du- f ur Dispatchr arrived in this city Saturday to visit over Sunday at the home of Dr. L. L. Taylor. M. J. Lynch, a Portland real estate man, was in this city the latter part of last week attend ing to business matters. Frank Purdy of Fossil attend ed the sale in this city on last Saturday. Mrs. N. Madden was an outgoing passenger on Monday morning's train for Baker City. W. H. McKenzie of Portland is doing the plastering on John Hess' house which , is being erected in southern Condon. - The Long Creek Ranger points out that in Grant County much of the land once i, considered worthless for farming is now being made to produce good crops by outsiders who have come in and gone to work. The fact is that the idle land held byfcpeculators in Grant County, notoriously under-assessed, dees much to discourage actual settlers. , You are going to have a well drilled and you are figuring on having H. H.Wilburn do the drilling for you as he is the most successful well man that was ev er in this part of the country. We would advise you to write or call and see him at once as he is finishing up all the wells he has in sight. Mr. Wilburn says he is receiving inquiries almost ev ery day from other localities and they want him to move right away and go to; work, bo have him do the work before it is too late. 14dl5 A Popular Summer Resort. The fine weather prevailing on the North Beach, is bringing hosts of visitors to the Ocean shore, intent on securing rest and a good coat of tan. The outlook is particularly bright for a remarkable busy season this summer, the num ber of visitors at this time being far greater than ever before at the same time of the year. The march of progress is evi dent throughout the entire length of the beach, and devel opment being assured, prosperi ty is but a matter of course. Work on the Automobile Boule varde is progressing very rapid ly, beach houses by the score are being erected, and new rooming houses and old are be ing rapidly put into shape to take care of the hoards of sum mer transients which will Boon be down upon us. The North Beach Push Club with its combined effort, shoul dering the Wheel of Progress, has awakened an era of activity which will undoubtedly secure the proper recognition of the un surpassed advantages of the North Beach for enjoyable out ings, and, at the same time, all the comforts of home. Negotiations are now pending with Portland capitalists for the installation of a water system to supply the beach and surround ing countryside with fine moun tain water. With the culmina tion of this project, one of the obstacles to an otherwise incom parable locality is obliviated.
