Bisset-Gordon A quiet wedding took place at Heppner Tuesday morning at six o'clock when Clint Bissetand Miss Nellie Gordon were united in marriage. The ceremony took place at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Frances Gordon, Rev. Orr officiating. The groom is the popular leader of the Wheat City Orchestra and has been working for Frank Golden at the 0. K. Barber shop in this city but was formerly a resident of Heppner where the young couple became tcruainted. The bride was one of Heppner's most charming young ladies and has a wide circle of friends in that vicinity: The Globe joins their many friends in wishing them much happiness. Fossil Lodges Entertain The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs lodge of Fossil gave a mock Christmas tree New Year's eve, and entertained visitors from Condon, Mayville and Mitchell The feature of the evening was the Old Maid's Tea Party, which was well given by members of the Blue Mountain Rebeka Lodge No. 65. A magnificent supper was served in the hall to over one hundred and fifty persons and the evening was one of the most enjoyable successes of the season. The visitors from Con don were; G. B. Dukek,C.H. Wil liams, A.A.Townley, FredSauter, Arthur Page and Mr. Simmons. Professor McCanof Fossil was chairman of the evening and as usual gave a good account of himself. Ail present received an invitation to attend the same feature next yet r. "Fossil hos pitality is of the genuine style and they know how to do things, " says a Condon enthusiast who attended the meeting. Painting Stage Scenery. John Elias is busy these days painting the curtains and -scenery for the new opera house, which is being arranged by Joe Boyer in the skating rink build ing. John is doing good work with his brush, "having already painted some beautiful scenes and attractive ads for our pro gressive merchants on the drop curtain. Mr. Boyer expects to have the stage ready for use in a short time. Heppner Worries Over Near Beer Sale. Pendleton has been appealed to from Heppner to find a sol ution to the near beer problem. The city clerk of Heppner has written Judge Fitz Gerald seek ing a copy of the ordinance licens ing the sale of that product in Pendleton, thus following in the footsteps of LaGrande and other Inland Empire towns which are patterning after Pendleton. Baker county wants a branch asylum. So does Uma tilla county. So does Union county. The semi-arid districts of the state want an irrigation law that will settle the long drawn out disputes over water rights. Eastern Oregon sheep men and cattlemen want a scalp bounty law. And there are other things that eastern Oregon wants the coming legislature to give through the enactment of legislation. The Dry farming ranchers are united for a dry farm station and their represen tatives will endeavor to get ap propriations for its maintenance, Mayville Notes Several inches of snow fell here Monday night and Tuesday. The thermometer has registered as low as six degrees below zero so far. . Mrs. D. T. Santo and daughter, Ruby, were business visitors in Fossil Saturday. " Chas Ridgeway returned Fri day from Culver, Oregon, where he has been spending X-mas hol- days, and has taken up his school work here again. Miss Julian Thomas who has been spending her vacation with her parents here, ; returned to Ajax Sunday, to resume her du ties at the school there. Ira Bowen of Fossil preached here Sunday. Arthur and Lester Beeson are spending a few days in the tim ber this week. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Quinn were Fossil visitors Saturday. Miss Cora Wilkes and Miss Thacker returned from Portland Saturday and resumed work in their respective schools near here Monday. , . . George Boise of Clem i3 visi ting at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Taylor, this week. . Mr. . John Thomas, who has been visiting at the home of his brother, J. F. Thomas, left Mon day morning for his home at Centerville, Wash. Mr. Strode has purchased a blacksmith shop at Olex. The family will remain here until spring. E. A. Stinchfield and G. B. Dukek made a business trip to Condon, Wednesday. Mr. Reynolds of Lone Rock, passed through here Tuesday. Mack Dodson left Wednesday for thi timber where he will care for A. M. Smith's sheep during the winter. ( COURT LEVIES TAX The county court during its session this week levied a coun ty tax of twelve mills which in eludes the school, road, state and library tax. In the Condon school districts, the residents will be added a six mill tax, while the residents of Condon have a ten mill tax for city purposes to add, making a total of a twenty-eight mill tax levy for the tax payers of Con don. Last year the levy was thirty mills. Lowney's Candies, tne kind the government buys for the navy, at the Condon Drug Co. Hot water bottles at the Con don Drug Co. John P. Winter,! a prominent Pendleton Attorney, was in at tendance at the term of Circuit court here Monday and Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. George Steven son returned Wednesday from a visit with relatives at Cloverdale and report an enjoyable time. ? ? Miller, will meet at" Salem next Monday to cast their votes for W. II. Taft for Presi dent and J. S. Sherman for Viee- President, and to select one of their number to enrry the certi fied copy of the result of their ballot to Washington. Wm. E. Buerlde, the shoe maker, returned the first of the week from a several days hunt on the Rexillius ranch, twenty miles from town. J. M. Loring is to be the sales man for the Clare Woodard Wholesale Drug Co. in this ter ritory from this time. on. U. I Hunt, who has had this territory during the past few months, writes that his business has grown to such an extent in the territory east of Pemllodon, as well as in Washington and Ida ho, that he will be forced to give his entire time to that district. He will however drop in on Con don friends occasionally. From reports Mr. Hunt is doing n large business in a territory form erly practically abandoned by his company, Will Bums came in Wednesday and expects to remain for some time. Ed Clough came up from Ar lington Wednesday. Bert Conner and wife returned Tuesday from a month's visit in the valley.
