Newspaper Page TextCIRCUIT COURT PROCEEDINGS Docket Finished In Two Days. PRISONERS SENT TO SALEM Raymond Case Dismissed LUt of Actions Con Over. The light docket for the Jan uary term of the circuit court for Gilliam county was rushed through on Monday and Tues day of this week. The numer ous cases pending were mostly either continued or dismissed, judgmement being given In only few. Five criminal cases were soon disposed of as four of the prisoners pleaded guilty when brought before the grand jury. Terrel Pope, who a month ago stole a purse containing $55 from a fellow ranchhand on the Mar tin ranch nearOlex, was given a sentence of two years in the pen itentiary. A. A. Reed, the for ger who had been awaiting trial for several months, was sent on a three years term in the state prison. Reed had forged the name of his employer, making out a check for over $90 which he cashed at the Arlington bank, but was caught while making his getaway. Reed is said to be a clever forger. Albert Vaughn and David Brown, who had brok en Into the section house at Quinton over a month ago, were sentenced to one year each in the penitentiary. The four pri soners were taken to Salem Tues day morning by Sheriff Rogers. Joe Raymond, a sheepherder, who was placed in jail last Sat urday, was released Tuesday. A few days before Raymond pur chased a watch from Paulinir & Keene and gave them an order on John Madden saying that he had been working for Madden in the Ferry Canyon country, the sum being due him us his wages. Later Maddan imformed the jewelers that he owed the young man that Bum but was holding out a part of it in pay ment for a dog which he said the fellow had killed. Raymond was imprisoned charged with obtain ing money under false pretenses but during that time the dog re turned and the case against Ray mond was dismissed. J. S. Boyer vs H. M. William Dowling admitted to citizenship. TWO SMALL BLAZES. Results of Try Inn to Keep Warm During Extremely Cold Spell. In an endeavor to warm the house, on Tuesday morning, when the thermometer stood two degrees below zero, Mrs. T. G. Johnson started a fire in her dining room stove and went on busily with her work in another room. Later, smelling smoke, she rushed into the room to dis cover the paper around the stove pipe ablaze. An alarm sent over the telephone brought out the Are department in a hur ry but the blaze had been ex tinguished before the arrival of the company and before much damage was done. Barker returned Tues day evening from Portland where he has been spending Christmas with his family. Jake Shroeder of Clem was in town Tuesday. District Attorney Burdett re turned to Arlington Wednesday. Contractor Bayliss went to Portland Wednesday and will spend a few weeks with his fam ily at Hillsdale. Chas. Owens of Ajax was in town the latter part of last week making proof on his homestead, Geo. Wasson won the beautiful pillow raffled off at the picture show last Sunday evening. The pillow was embroidered by Miss Palmer of Ajax.
