Run ion Continued from Sept Mrs. Sarah Hayes, an early Oregon pioneer, died at Lone Rock last Sunday evening. The funeral was conducted in this city Wednesday by Rev. J. V. Crawford. ' Sarah Hayes, whose maiden name was Capehart, was born near Jefferson City, Mo., Novem ber 14th, 1836. Her parents both died during her infancy. She crossed the plains to Oregon in 1852, and two years later, in 1854 was married to W. J. Haynes in Lane County. She and her husband settled at Myrtle Creek in Douglas county where they re sided for a number of years. To them were born four sons and two daughters, all of whom are living but the youngest, the late Charles J. H. Hayes of this city. Her husband died just twenty years and six months before she answered the summons, to join him in the great beyond. Be sides she leaves twenty-six grand children and fourteen great grand children. She came to Morrow county in 1877 and has resided here contin uously ever since, and in conse quence had a very wide aquain ance throught this section of the country, especially among Ihe older settlers, many of whom were the recipients of her kind and motherly ministrations in times of sickness and distress. Heppner Gazzette. - As a result of the big dance given last rriday evening the Condon Athletic Club has added $40 more to their fast increasing treasury. The hallv which has been remodeled, afforded ample room for the large crowd. The Wheat City Orchestra furnished excellent music and words of praise were heard on all sides for this organization. The floor managers are to be commended for the efficient way in which they handled the crowd and made all strangers feel perfect ly at home. The platform in the front of the hall was used to ac commodate the spectators, of which there were about 45. An excellent supper was served at the Hotel Oregon. Dancing was kept up until a late hour and the crowd behaved themselves in a manner befitting the occasion. The evwt took place on Wednesday, Dec ember 23d, at Portland, and they are now at home to their friends at Marshfleld, Oregon, where the groom is engaged in running a skating rink; Both parties are well known in this city. The Globe joins their many friends in wishing then success and hap piness. W. C. Reed left for Portland Tuesday morning, having sold his interest in the American Theatre to his partner, C. A. Barr, who in company with Fred Collins will continue the business. , For the past few weeks num bored cupons were given to all ladies attending the show and on Christmas night duplicates were put in a box and one drawn out Miss Gertie Shaffer had the cor responding number and was pre sented with a watch, valued at $25.
