The James Larch house, occu pied by Ed Schott and family, caught fire last Saturday, and but for the timely arrival of the "Clem Bucket Brigade" would have burnt to the ground. The boys arrived on the scene in time to put out the fire before rruch damage was done. W. A. West and Frank Lewis were business visitors here last week. Henry Wilkins left on Monday for Lost Valley to round up about two hundred head of steers that he had sold to a Washington buyer. Mr. Wilkins anticipates a hard winter and being short of feed wishes to dispose of the greater part of his herd, which before this sale numbered about Bix or seven hundred head. Con Schott and Lester Wade were in town the first of the week. The Kerr, Gifford Warehouse Co. shipped a carload of wheat this week. J. L. Chandler was a passen ger to Condon Monday. B. K. Searcy and John Scott came down from Condon Mon day on their way to Blalock to hunt geese. C. A. Danneman met them here with a team and wagon and drove them to their hunting ground. E. J. McPherson made a busi- ness trip to Portland last Mon " day. - Robert McKinney of Rock Creek was a business visitor here tne nrsi oi me wee. Allen Nott made a trip to Condon last Sunday. Jno. McEachern'and wife were visitors at the home of Sherman Wade Sunday. School : is progressing nicely under the careful management of Miss Emma Anderson. Putnam moved his fam ily to the home of his son-in-law 3. II. Edwards, this week where they will remain while Mr. Put nam makes a trip through the Willamette Valley in search of a permanent location. I II. Stevens moved his family Irom the ranch on Buckhorn tc fossil Tuesday. Mrs. Lawson and little grand son passed through here on their way from the Thirty-mile saw mill to Condon last Monday. L. Combs of Fossil took a load of mill feed to Condon for T. D. Santo on Thursday. J. E. Reynolds, the cattle buy er, took a band of cattle through here the first of the week. He will take them to The Dalles where they will be fed this win ter. Ross Beeson arrived here from Coburg, Oregon last Tuesday ev ening to visit with relatives. A. Boyce came up from Olex Tuesday to look after his chopper which is at work in this vicinity. Two loads of lumber came in from- Winlock Wednesday, one for Wm. Keys and one for E. A. Stinchfield. Wallace returned from Idaho Tuesday evening and will visit for some time with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Wall ace. Evan Anderson returned Tues day from Portland, W. M. Wade of Olex attended the meeting of the Railroad Com mission held here on Wednes day. C. Dissett of Heppner is hold ing down the second chair in the 0. K. Barber shop. Mrs. Paul Brunzel was a pass enger for Portland the fore part of the week. The Brunzels will make their home in the Rose City during the winter.
