Messrs. Thorpe and Komeradid not bring their families with them preferring to flrnt look over the country and secure locatlona. These people all have the appearance of being anbatantial citiiena of the right ort to bring grand old Gilliam county to the front and no doubt will meet with a hearty welcome from all onr people. They are all old neighbor and ac quaintance! of Wm. Ilawea who came to Gilliam county two year ago and who la now counted aa one of our moat snb etaatiat cltiaen. It will tie several weeks be fore the road will be in condition for hauling lumber from the Lost Valley mill and th purpose I to have the founda tion completed aa soon as the lumber be gins to arrive. We understand the Mill Co. will pur chase all of their lumber from The Lost Vallev LumlierCo. and we congratulate Mr. Ilaltead, the efficient manner, of that company on having secured such an important contract. A force of men from this part of the country worked the county road from the top of Devil' hill to llay creek Tuesday, Mr. Lou Adama and Will Smith re turned to their home a Oakville, Linn Co. last week after ataying in this part country about three weeks. The meetings were highly inrcetsful thirteen converts being the result uf the labor of the ministers and members of the congregation. Of this number 12 were baptised into the church Tuesday afternoon, the baptism services lieinir held at Thirty-mile. Rev. Mount would continue the meetings fur another week or so if it were not for the fact that his family is sick at Fossil and he is obliged to go to them. Rev. A contract for the publication of the delinquent tas list wa let by thecounty court Saturday. The Arlington Record was the soeceeful bidder its bid being 9.00 per column brevier measure, a frac tion under eix cents a line. The list must be published in four issues of the .paper and a copy of the paper must be sent to each person whose name appears in the list. The work roust lie carefully compared and corrected and be absolute ly correct. The Weekly Times' bid was 7Js cents a line for the same work. The (ji.onK alflo submitted a bid of 14r a line or $2T 66 cents a column which is as low a price as the work can be done for. The advertising space of thie paper is worth a certain ligure and the county will pay the same rate as any individual no more ami no less, if it uccs such space.
