Cox was a guest at the most brilliant f nnotion of tbe season which ooourred in Eagle Hall at Pen Ideton Tuesday afternoon. The ' train will leave Pendleton at 9 a. m. and returning will leave Walla Walla at 7 p. m. Filer's piano bouse puzzle picture has been solved by Eddie Jarman and George Wiaship. Eddie . receives an $85 certificate and George one for $76. The face value of these certificates will be received by the Eilers people as part payment on a piano. V George Staggs of Weston, reoently (.made a trip from Heppner to Pendle ton in his Maxwell auto, in four hours. In performing the feat, the front axle of the auto was sprang and Mr. Staggs was at Tharp 's shop Tuesday, engaged in taking out the kink. Mrs. J. R. King, a pioneer woman, well known in this vioinity, died at the family borne in Weston, Wednesday afternoon after a lingering illness aged 69 years, 10 months and 23 days. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at the United Brethern churob in Weston. LAnother in the series of parties in I country homes near Athena was en joyed Wednesday night at tbe borne of Mr. and Mrs. Ad Pinkerton. About 35 young people were present, and games were played until near mid night, when a dainty collation of oake and coffee was served. The Garradine meetings whioh oom menoed at the M. E. church in this city Wednesday evening, are being well attended. Evangelist Carradine is an able man and his audiences give olose attention to his discourses. The meetings will oontinue indefinitely. Tbe hour for the evening services is 7:30. . J Miss Etta Muirhead died on the 13 last, at the home of ber parents in Dayton, Wash, after three days ill ness, from scarlet fever. She was born in Wallula, Wash. December 29, 1889, and resided in this city for a. period of three years. She was a member of the Sophomore class in tbe Dayton high school at tbe time of her death. yNAfter persistent effort, N. A. Miller has been successful in locating a sister of Dan Avery, tbe man who oommitted snioide in tbe Athena city jail. Her name is Mrs. Nina Wentz, and she re sides at 8401 thirty-sixth street, Taoo ma. The sister was traoed by letter from Minnesota and she writes Mr. Miller, for information relative to ber brother's death. )Mrs. Carnahan.jR trained nurse, of experience, who id a sister of T. W.
