A Joe Scott will commence harvesting ra half section field of wheat one mile south of Mission - station, Monday. In this field Mr. Scott estimates his loss to be at least 1000 sacks. Walters, the Weston saloon keeper who was going out of business, - will continue to manage the Lobby saloon at tbut place. Liceuso will be taken out in the name of his wife, Cora M. Walters. . There a is considerable amount of water being used now for irrigation aud street sprinkling purposes. The pumping plant was used during the forenoon Sunday aud the difference in quality of the water was noticed. . The fuct that there has not been a case ot typhoid fever in Athena for several months may be attributed to the -excellent sanitary conditions of the town and the pure spring water used for domestic purposes. C. L. Swain, assistant state engin eet, who has bad charge of the typo graphical survey at Milton, has com pleted the work there and has taken bis apparatus to Echo, where he will take up similar work. Andrew Goodell has been given the position of engineer at the city pump ing station during the irrigating sea sou. An excessive amount of "water is being used during the dry weather and the pumping plant will be oper ated temporarily. The chances are favorable that "Jinks" Taylor, will have a law suit on his hands. He so forgot himself that he let bis team run away, and as Brotherton has a copyright on "all sicb," the matter is liable to come up for settlement in the courts. C. A. Wender, special agent for the Royal and Queen insurance companies was in the city recently Both of these companies are represented in Athena by L M. Kemp and F. S. LoGrow. They are listed at the top of the "dol lar" companies and do a good busi ness wherevre represented. Weston Leader: Harry Turner vis ited his leased land south of Athena Sunday, accompanied by Albert Proeb stel. He has 200 acres of remarkably fine Jones' fife wheat that looks as though it ought to be good for 50 bushels per acre, so heavy and uni form is the stand. The visitors threshed ten beads selected at random and found an average of 73 plump kernels to the bead. One of them contained 84 kernels. f Chas. Brotherton has placed an or Merwith the Gilbert Hunt Co. of Wal la Walla.for a 28 iucti Pride of Wash ington separator, and the machine will be unloaded from the car today. Mr. Brotherton has 400 acres of wheat which he will begin harvesting next week.' He confidently expects an av erage yield of 40 bushels per acre. Jesse Reeves of Alba, formeily of Weston, has returned from Portland with his eyesight restored, after five weeks treatment for blindness. -Mr. Reeves, who is 82 years old, was oper ated upon by Dr. Brewer for cataract, and was the oldest patient ever treated by that specialist, reports the Leader. H. G. Walker is getting along nicely in Dr. Williamson's sanatarium at Portland says the Leader. Reports as to his condition say that he has already shown marked improvements and that his permanent recovery is ex pected. Mr. Walker will remain at the sanatarium until fully restored in health.; Circuit Judge Bean will hold court at Milton on December 3, for bearing the water cases brought by the Pea cock Milling Co. The reason that Milton was selected as the place for holding a session of the circuit court, is that nearly 800 persons are made defendants to the suit, and all reside at and near Milton. Thomas J. Price, one of the best known pioneers of Umatilla county, died yesterday at his home north of Weston. Mr. Price bad been failing iu heatlh for several months. He was aged 77 years, and settled on the home place adjoining the town of Weston in 1871. He is survived by his wite and several children, who are prominent in the oounty. , William and Harry MoBride of this city are nephews of the deceased. The funeral. takes place this afternoon at 2 o clock. . .. Loss By Flood $47,000 t At the last session of the county court over 25,000 in bills was pre sented for the signatures of the com missioners, over 112,000 of bills beiug for repairing roads and bridges in the county damaged by the recent floods that swept this section of the country. Even with this amount expended at least $5000 more will be required to put the roads in shape, thus making a total of $17,000 spent in the repair ing of roads alone. For the repairing and reconstruction of the bridges that were damaged the county court thinks that an additional sum of $30,000 will be needed, making a total of $4 7,000, all of which is directly traceable to the flood. St. Mary's hospital at Walla Walla Sunday, and an operation was performed last night. She is somewhat improved.
