Grants Pass Only BEERY SLAVE SHIP I The largest single monthly pay ment for gas tax collections in the states history was received in September, with an oil company check issued in the amount of $302,000.05. This amount set an all-time record in the office of Earl Snell, secretary of state. Collections for the month of September for gasoline sold dur ing the preceding month, reached the high mark of $1,220,55.20, on a total sale of more than 24 mil lion gallons. On a per capita ba sis, counting every man, woman and child in Oregon, 24 gallons per person was so^i during the month. More than seven million dollars were collected during the first eight months of 1937. --------------o NEW MANAGER . An unprecedented demand for the new issue of the Oregon Blue : Book has been noted since publi I : cation of the new volume. In : creased orders for schools have ! been received, indicating the growing use of the state directory as a textbook on civics and his tory. “In addition to school use, adult : : education classes conducted over : the state have found the Blue Ê Book a fundamental reference for governmental study and many I more orders have been sent in for copies for such purposes,” Secre : : : tary Snell reports. i Distribution to schools, both public and private, is centralized through the offices of the county school superintendents in order to provide a fair and equitable sup ply for all schools from the limit ed quantity of directories avail able. Public officials have also in creased their orders for the new edition, following its issuance a few weeks ago, and library re quests are exceeding past years. Free distribution is limited by sta tute to schools and officials.
