The pro- posed action includes vegetation and fuels treatments, landscape underburning, wildlife habitat designations, road activities to support vegetation and fuels treatments, and road system changes within the 40,000-acre project area. The overall purpose of the project is to improve forest health and increase resilience to drought, fire, insects and diseases and other disturbances. Additionally, there is an op- portunity to contribute to the economic stability of local communities that depend on timber resources for their livelihood. The Cliff Knox project area is located 30 miles southeast of Prairie City, Oregon, and is situated on the Prairie City and Emigrant Creek Ranger Districts in Grant and Harney counties. The project area is in the Bluebucket Creek and Cliff Creek-Malheur River subwatersheds, and includes the Malheur River Inventoried Roadless Area and part of the Malheur Wild and Scenic River corridor. The legal description for the project area includes Townships 17 and 18 South and Ranges 33, 34, and 35 East, Willamette Meridian.
