Trail class obstacles are developed to mimic actual trail situations and demonstrate the horse and rider's skills. This program has been designed to be a fun event for youth. All general horse rules apply to the Ranch Horse program, with the following special rules: A. All participants must be enrolled in the 4-H Horse project AND must have attended AT LEAST ONE Ranch Horse RIDING CLINIC in the current 4-H year. B. All general rules pertaining to ownership, etc. as listed under livestock will be adhered to. C. A signed release of liability must be signed by parent/ guardian and 4-H member to participate in Fair Ranch Horse Contest. These will be turned in to the superintendent. D. Ranch Horse contest guides and rules are avail- able from the Grant County Extension office. E. The Ranch Horse Contest is part of the Fair, but is held at a different date and location. F. The contest consists of the following six class- es: Ranch Horse Showmanship, Working Ranch Horse, Ranch Horse Trail, Cow Working, Ranch Horse Roping, Identification, knowledge, and skill tests. G. Members must use the SAME HORSE for all classes. H. Members will prepare at least two dishes that incorporate a mystery ingredient pro- vided at the contest. A panel of judges will evaluate the final product for taste, plating (appearance of presentation) and originality/food safety.
