Mr. and Mrs. Heater are o f that rapidly decreasing class o f our population, the pioneers, they haring crossed the plains to Ore gon in 1S50, settling on the claim which is still their home. I t is understood that Mr. Edwards will reside in Portland. Newberg loses an energetic citi zen and a fine family in the re moval. Word was received here this week from Indiana announcing the death of the brother o f Miss Ella Macv, whom the latter re turned to Indiana to nurse dur ing his continued sickness. The many friends o f Miss Macv in Newberg will be glad to learn that she was substantially re membered by her brother in a financial way, he being in very good circumstances at -the time o f his death. Her return to New berg is expected at an early day. The committee o f the Yamhill County Young Men’s Christian Association has called a conven tion to be held at McMinnville next S a t u r d a y and Sunday, when plans for the county work will be discussed. The first ses sion w ill be held at ten o ’clock, Saturday morning and further sessions will follow Saturday afternoon and at night, and Sun day % will also be a full day. They say it is evident to them that times are much better here than in their country and the same report is jrought by others who have re cently come from east o f the iockies. Pres. W. I. Kelsey arrived with his family from Indiana last Sun day morning and during the week they have been fitting up for housekeeping in the new cot tage, recently completed by the Williams sisters, near the public school grounds on the north east. Owing to the sudden and unexpected change in the finan cial situation throughout the country, he was unable to ac complish all he had hoped tor for the college, but he received some assistance for present needs and he hopes for better results in the near future.
