Brand, president of the Coos Coun ty Public Health Association, and Mrs. W. J. Conrad who has been ac tive in the local work as county Tu berculosis seal sale chairman. For fifteen yeans the Oregon Tu berculosis Association has been hold ing such annual meetings and each year has seen an increase in attend ance and an increasing interest on the part of the delegates. The ses sions this year which wiU open Tues day, February 25, at 9 a. m., in the Portland Public Library will bo un usually interesting and informative, according to Mrs. Saidie Orr Dunbar, executive secretary of the association. Several dinner parties and theatre parties are being planned foT Tuesday night. Representatives and members of many women's clubs, civic Organi zations, county health unite, medical societies, official state agencies and other groups are expected. Mrs. Brand is to represent the Coos County Public Health Aaeociatton of ficially, and will present the presi dent’s report of the association’« ac tivities for the past year at the meet ing Wednesday morning. The presi dents of the nineteen other county as sociations in the state that are affili ated with the tuberculosis.association will also present their reports. Mrs. Dunbar states that as a result of the active work of many associations during the pact year keen interest in these records is expected. The man or woman who is active in civic affairs is appointed in each com munity to serve as chairman of the Better Homes Committee for that place. Th« chairman then selects a committee of representative men and women to conduct the campaign. These campaigns very according to the size and conditions of the community, and include programs of lectures, demon strations, and contests. Wherever pos sible a house is planned and built, or a suitable one borrowed and furnished. In this way families of modest means are encouraged toward homo owner ship and are shown how a bouse of good design and construction can be built at a coot within their means. Through such demonstrations prospec tive homo owners receive many helps and suggestions for the planning, pur chase or building of homes, and many famines aro inspired to make neces sary improvements in their homes. The complete furnishing of such dem onstration houses on a restricted bod- get is helpful in showing to those con templating the furnishing or refur nishing of a home the standards of good taste combined with iy.
