F ry them until brow n In a little suet. P lace them in a soup kettle, add tw o dozen cloves, nne-half cupful of onions chopped and nlso f r i e d ; one larg e c a rro t cu t into dice, one-fourth of a cupful of brow ned flour. Season w ith snlt and pepper, add tw o pounds of lean beef w ith a few d ash es of cayenne. C over w ith fo u r q u a rts of cold w ater, bring to th e boiling point, then sim m er on the back of th e sto v e o r a t low h eat for th re e hours. S tra in and serve. F ish Chow der. Dice a pound of any good fresh fish freed from bones. F ry th re e o r four slices of s a lt pork cut into fine dice, add th re e onions sliced and six good- sized p o tato es also sliced. Cook w ith w a te r to cover u n til th e p o tato es are nearly done, then add th e fish and cook until well done. Add hnlf a doz en milk c ra c k e rs soaked In hot milk and one q u a rt of hot m ilk. Season to ta s te and se rv e a t once. V eg etarian G ravy. Chop one sm all anion and carro l and brow n them In tw o tablespnonfuls of b u tter. D issolve one bouillon cube in one cupful of w ater, add to the vegetables an d sim m er fo r 20 m inutes. S tra in and th ick en w ith flour and b ut te r well brow ned, ad d in g a dash of W orcestershire sa u ce and kitchen bou quet G ateau de P rincess. B ake a sponge cak e in two Jelly tins. C ut th e c e n te r from one cake, leav in g a rim one and one-half inches wide. C over th e cake w ith Jelly. Jam, fresh b e rrie s o r sliced fru it. P lace th e rim over th e cak e and frost the rim o r d ec o ra te w ith w hipped cream . C ream of Corn Soup. In a double boiler place one q u a rt of m ilk, one and one-half cu p fu ls of com . one-half of an onion, th re e sprigs of parsley, p a p rik a and salt to taste .
