Despite the hopes o f many people and the promises o f the authorities, Fritz Boysen, the convicted Hotel Belle boose-ped- dler, is to escape the heralded jail sentence, which the prosecut ing attorney’s office and the courts a few weeks ago, promis ed to give him. Now the announcement is made that Judge Campbell has allowed the offender to pay the $500 tine and escape the six months jail sentence, providing he leave Clackamas County and stay away. This action on the part o f Judge Campbell is probably warranted and probably repre sents the best solution o f the case, as Boysen had unlimited financial and legal backing to fight through the courts for months to come. Boysen is quoted as having claimed to have cleaned up over $50,000 from his nefarious calling and if the figures were available, it is likely that he and his Mil- waukie outfit have cost Clacka mas County several thousand dollars in more or less useless prosecutions.
