Klaetsch’s Mill Operating
The real estate men o f this
community have been invited by
the officials o f the Portland Real
ty Board to attend a real estate
convention to be held in the Ore
gon Building, Portland, July 17,
18 and 19, when the leading ‘ ‘real
estaters” from all parts o f Ore
gon and from Southern Washing
ton and Southern Idaho will gath
er to discuss problems pertinent
to the profession.
S. E. Wooster o f Estacada will
attend this convention, as will
probably several other business
men.
A fter several months spent in
moving their mill into its new lo
cation in Springwater, together
with weeks o f building and in
stalling machinery, dam, convey
or, etc., the Klaetsch Mill is now
in operation.
This mill is one o f the largest
plants in the county, with a ca
pacity o f 30,000 feet per day.
The plant will employ fifteen
men and is turning out the best
o f fir and cedar lumber, special
izing on dimension materials.
To facilitate the handling o f
the immense stand o f timber ad
joining, a 150 foot dam was con
structed across a branch o f Clear
Creek, creating a mill pond o f
sufficient capacity to h a n d l e
1,000,000 feet o f timber.

Julius Griffin of Barton, who
had been ill for many years, died
last week at the age o f 80 years.
The deceased was a pioneer of
Oregon and is survived by many
relatives.
Give Me A Trial
Mr. and.Mrs. O. W. Kinney o f
Biggs, Oregon, arrived in Esta
cada last week, coming via the
Columbia Highway in their ma
chine.
They remained in Esta
cada over the Fourth, visiting
among friends and relatives.
Despite the hopes o f many
people and the promises o f the
authorities, Fritz Boysen, the
convicted Hotel Belle boose-ped-
dler, is to escape the heralded
jail sentence, which the prosecut
ing attorney’s office and the
courts a few weeks ago, promis
ed to give him.
Now the announcement is made
that Judge Campbell has allowed
the offender to pay the $500 tine
and escape the six months jail
sentence, providing he leave
Clackamas County and stay away.
This action on the part o f
Judge
Campbell
is probably
warranted and probably repre
sents the best solution o f the case,
as Boysen had unlimited financial
and legal backing to fight through
the courts for months to come.
Boysen is quoted as having
claimed to have cleaned up over
$50,000 from his nefarious calling
and if the figures were available,
it is likely that he and his Mil-
waukie outfit have cost Clacka
mas County several thousand
dollars in more or less useless
prosecutions.
Carl Kimmel o f Estacada, who
a week or so ago, left for Castle
Rock, Oregon to work on an irri
gation project, returned home
Sunday, where he will remain
till after the 4th and as he says
‘ ‘sometime thereafter.”
The contract to paint the Esta
cada school building was awarded
to Willis Cox, on a bid o f $312.
Work will commence as soon as
the weather permits.
