Soon after the car was left on the track the chain which held the break become detached and the car started down the grade. Mail car No. 21, Bob Adams, mo- terman, was returning to town and there would have been a terrible accident had not the moterman reversed the power and tried to out run the runaway, but it was coming too fast, and the two cars came together just North of the high tres- sel bridges. Passangers and traimen got in the opposite end of the car, but nearly all received bruises and severe bumps. Neither car left the track, and the car men soon stopped them. Walter F. Case, the mail clerk, was the most serious one hurt, receiving a dislocated collarbone.
