Mr. and Mrs. McCabe were out from their Tygh home, Friday un til Sunday morning, Mrs. McCabe idsiting her mother and sister, and while here Andy could not forget ii finned friends and visited the Deschutes, catching a few nice rout, one measuring 16 inches. The Dufur High school held fheir graduating exercises last night. Belvie Patisqn, a popular young man of Waniic and a gradu te this year, delivered the first number on the program, an ad dress, The Victories of Peace. Mr. Fred Covey, a graduate to be of The Dalles High school next month and a former teacher near Wapinitia, has been employed as manager of The Hunt's Ferry Warehouse Co, for the next two years. Geo. Magill of Wamic has a sheath of this year's rye cut and standing in the house, some of which measures over six feet in highth. Friday of last week should have been the beginning of the quarter ly service, but owing to the tired condition of Elder Coffee and the incltment weather there was no preaching that night, but on Sat urday night and Sunday morning and night he gave his audience three fine serinons in his practical manner. Rev. G. R, Ellis, the! new minister for this place, was with the elder and led the singing, lie will preach his first sermon of the conference year next Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Crimes of The Dalles drove out in their Buick car by way of Dufur and Tygh Valley. Mr. Grimes had not traveled that road for forty five years, and the changes that have been made in that time are won derful, from a sage brush arid land. to prosperous farms and commodi ous homes. They stopped at Tygh and renewed old acquaint ances and while at Maupin visited with Mr. Johnson. J. Richard Marvin and his fath er, J, L. Marvin, of the Marvin Hardware company of Amity, Ore- gon, arrived at tne notei ivioaa Monday evening. The latter gen tleman is troubled with asthma and has been at Weston, Oregon, in hopes of finding a climate bet ter for him. Since arriving in Maupin, he is feeling much im proved. The annual Fanner's Union pic nic will be held at i riend, June 3rd, with a big free basket dinner and a dance at Kingsley hall in the evening. The Maupin and Dufur ball teams were asked to be present for a game, but as it would not be possible for a of number the local boys to be present, the invi tation was declined. Mrs. J. Our school closes here Friday, also the Oak Grove school, and next Saturday a school picnic will be giveu itj the Ook Grove under the supervision of County School Supt. Clyde T. Bonuey. Mr. Churchill, superindent of public instruction is expected to be pres ent, also Mr, Bonney and Mr. Griffin. The music will be furn ished by the Wapinitia band. A baseball game is planned for the afternoon. Wamic, Tygh Valley, Smock, Oak Grove, Maupin and this school will be represented, A basket dinner, come everyone and bnug your 'friend.' E. A.
