East Slope Not Combed According to J. K. Turn bull, a group of mountain climbers of Jtend nave been conduct inn a ajHtematic near eh for more than a month and they have covered the west, north went, Hotit.hwoat and south slopes of the Middle Sister. It is the opinion of the Bend scorchers that if tbe bodies of the two boys are to be found on the Middle Mister, they may be under snow on the east nlope. The eastern Oregou men are turning theii attention to this slope now with the idea of eliminating the Middle Bis ter entirely from further search. There Is also the theory that the two boys were not overtaken by the storm which broke at lower altitudes that day, and may have attempted to climb the North Sister. It was recalled by both those of the Outdoor club ami the KiKiua K Tau partj that young Ferry and (Irumer were in the peak of tlte Mid dle Sister at H.'M) p. m., Sept. 5. Ferry left a note In tbe registration book at the top. And there, on a pinnacle above the earth, the two boys disappeared from this life. Search Is Organized Guy Ferry and Henry Cramer, Jr.. whose homes are in The Pallet, left that city ou a Saturday night to climb one of the peuks- in the Three His ters region. They were to return to The Dalles Monday nrglit, as Ferry bad an engagement there to meet a fraternity brother and take blm back to Ch4 mountains. They never returned. And the hypothesis is that they lost their lives while attempting to make the descent from the peuk of the Middle .Sister, On Sept. 7, an organized search was begun. Through a cash donation of moro than $TKX by the Portland Advertising club, 1j. A. Nelson wlio is an official of tho Wert Coast Lum Iwrmcn's aaaocintion, was sent up to take chargo of the search and feed the acarchera. Tbe search continued five days un der most disheartening circumstances. At the end of Unit time it was certain that the boys were dead and1 their I todies, cove rod by imow. The Wasco county court had spent more than $1000 and the liend Kiwanls club con tributed $1T0 toward the senrch. Varying theories hekl Home believ ed the boys on their way down the mountain had an accident and that they were overcome bo exnoaure and died In the storm which foUowcd that evening. This theory Is still held by GnbHel who has believes that from the first, having known the boys and their habita as only a fraternity bro ther can knoWjthcm. Another theory was that they s4Ip nod into a ravine or crevase In Hen trow glacier and probably dropped hundreds of feet to their Jon th. Still another theory, and one ad vanced by other students who knew Ferry and Oramer, was that they crept into a cave in the side of the mountain to await passing of the storm, and were blocked in by the icy snow. Gabriel believe the boys were not as poorly clad as reports mat year indicated. He Mates that Ferry's handwriting on the top of tho Jdiddle Sister did not Indicate that he was cold. He adds that Is was known that the hoys wore on tho mountain the day boforo and that they know how cold It wua.
