Several carloads of concrete hol low tile were furnished for the hotel by the Kugeue Concrete I'ipe com pany. The makers take pride in Hie fact that this material was made in Kugeue, by Kngepe workmen, and it has 110 superior, It Is believed. Not only is the building fire-proof, hut the tile Is a non-conductor of heat or cold. This means that tem perature In dffcrent parts of the building can bo carefully regulated, it is stated. The concrete blocks ued were tlioroujl.ly tested, both in the Hast and at the Oregon Agricultural t'ol lege testing ntnlion, and were found to have the high crushing resistance of one nnd one-half Ions to the square inch. This means that a piece of tile B by H inches is callable of support -a Pullman car. The potential ability of the blocks is many times II. e strain that will ever be put on I hem, it is staled. The oppor-, tionment of work on the building; was taken care of by Mr. Head, who, sub-leted jobs ns lie saw fit.
