Several carloads of concrete hol
low tile were furnished for the hotel
by the Kugeue Concrete I'ipe com
pany. The makers take pride in Hie
fact that this material was made in
Kugeue, by Kngepe workmen, and it
has 110 superior, It Is believed.
Not only is the building fire-proof,
hut the tile Is a non-conductor of
heat or cold. This means that tem
perature In dffcrent parts of the
building can bo carefully regulated, it
is stated.
The concrete blocks ued were
tlioroujl.ly tested, both in the Hast
and at the Oregon Agricultural t'ol
lege testing ntnlion, and were found
to have the high crushing resistance
of one nnd one-half Ions to the square
inch. This means that a piece of tile
B by H inches is callable of support -a
Pullman car. The potential ability
of the blocks is many times II. e strain
that will ever be put on I hem, it is
staled.
The tile also has several other 011.-
slanding features h as light weight,
which mnkcB it easier to use, anil n

desirable feature in a hold. The
tile was so und nnd true that a
saving of aiipronimnlely 15 per cent
in plates nnd lime was effected by

means that a beautiful finish can he
applied which will not check or crack.

cessfully in the Miner building, and
it has given the utmost satisfaction
in both of Kugene's largest struc
tures. Outiido of the local territory the
tile has been used In the now Olympic
hotel at Seattle-, the Davenport hotel
in Spokane, nnd In the Ycon building
in Portland. The company started
operating In 1(11'.', tind has been com
pelled to double the capacity of Its
plant. It is now the largest plant of
this kind In the slnte. Officers of
the company are Wlnthrop C. Hall,
president; Howard A. Hull, vice-president;
II. H. Hrunilage, treasurer;
Hugh I'. Ford, secretary. The plant

ned the spacious building.
